Trackpad going insane and clicking on everything

My trackpad won't stay in one spot. It keeps moving around the screen even if I'm not touching it. I could be standing 5 feet back from my computer and it would still be clicking on everything and spazzing all over the screen. Yes, I've tried cleaning it. Yes, I've restarted my computer multiple times. Yes, everything is up to date. This is super frustrating since I have things I need to type for class and I can't use my computer for more than 5 minutes without my trackpad randomly trying to click on everything, making it impossible to type. Do I just need to bring this into the apple store? Is it a lost cause?

OOOOh thank you pal36, i only search in the category "trackpad", just near to "mouse" 😀. it was logical for me that i can disconnect the trackpad in category trackpad...

tomorrow, someone from apple will call me at 10:30 (french hour), i will see what he says and if he has a solution, i will write it here !

thanks a lot for the trick ! about now, it work for me too.

Ok, then...

Apparently, there are 2 solutions and it's possible that it does not work :

1) first we have to save our important files and reinstall the system. With this solution, you need some place on your hard drive because the "new system" replaces the old without clear the old who became like a ghost on your hardrive. Normally, you don't lose your contents but save the importants files is a caution that i advise

if this solution does not work, we can try the second solution...

2) clear all the system, clear all, and reinstall the system... this solution clear all, so, save all what you want befor !!!

if the second solution does not work too, the woman says that we only can send our macbook to an apple center. I ask her for the price, she answers me that just the apple center can give the price, she can't estimate the price.

if someone want to try, say the result here please.. because i can't try this for moment...

again, sorry for my english, we have a bad level in france 🙂

ps : if you don't understand what i say, i will try to explain better

Hello! I do have the same problem.. I was babysitting my friend's sister and she was just playing on my computer.. tapping on the key board.. I dint know if it could cause me this much hassle.. my computer now works fine sometime and sometimes it just starts clicking on everything.. LOL. I don't have warranty scared to even take it to the store.. thinking how much its going to cost me. I did go to the best buy where the guy at the register ... shouldn't be a professional but told me it might cost me around $ 300.. idk if it is a permanent damage.. =(

Well my problem seemed to fix itself after a while. Using an external mouse works fine. Then the trackpad seemed to work fine also. However the problem came back a short while later and started to click on things all over the place totally on its own. I'm under warranty until July so I guess I better get it in and checked out unless anyone knows something I should know.
