i want to use my apple id in mac app store without associating my credit card. i read it somewhere that i could buy free apps with non-credit card associated id's. but when i tried, it kept asking me to enter credit card number. so can i use app store without credit card?

Click Account right side of the App Store wnidow then sign in.

Then click Edit to the right of Paymen Type.

    Select None then click Done.

If only it were that simple. Many of us have no "none" available.

Since the guy on the other discussion clearly had no desire to help anyone, I thought I'd ask here instead... can anyone help with this?

I'm having the SAME problem. I opened an account for myself earlier on my own iphone and it had the "NONE" option available at that time, so I was able to use it. Now I've got my granddaughter a new iphone and am trying to open her an account, and the "NONE" option is not available. If anyone knows why this is, please HELP!

Talking to Apple really feels like slamming your head against a brick wall sometimes.

We've all seen that support topic. It tells us to click the "none" button. The only problem, as stated in the text of my post and illustrated in the screeshot, is that the "none" option IS NOT THERE.

I appreciate you trying to help, and I'm glad you aren't just telling us we're all liars like the guy on the other thread, but please could you try to understand the problem we are having and try to address it? The problem is that the link stated only talks about creating a new ID. if we try to download a free app using an existing ID there is (for at least some of us) no "none" option.

    1. Apple is not here. This is a user to user forum. The folks who respond to questions here are users of Apple products.

    2. My comment was not directed to you, it was directed to ADHMaury2009, who appears to be still in the process of creating an iTunes account and who may be able to use the information in the KB article.

    3. This is not your thread, you did not even start the thread. You do not get to dictate the assistance that other users offer to folks here in the ASC. So stop acting the fool.

What? So when an apple user goes to the apple website and clicks on "support" to try to get support from apple they get directed to a site that doesn't even have any apple staff on it where they can get bum advice and insults from other apple users? What the **** is that all about?

  • RalphJ Level 1 (0 points)

And why on earth does h-e-l-l get changed to "****" to make it look like i said **** when I deliberately chose not to swear?

Find any free app and click "free" as if to download it. It will then prompt you to sign in, just choose sign up. After you fill out the prompts, the "NONE" option will be available under payment method.

    Hope this helps!

P.S. This method should work for any Store.

I don't know why the "NONE" option is not available, but according to Apple Support there is no way to make it available for an existing id, your only option is to create a new id, or hand over your credit card details.

You did not follow Apple's instructions in my above link regarding creating an account without a credit card when you created a new Apple ID or there would have been a None option.

Agreed - the none option is gone.  Very frustrating.

I was as frustrated as you guys. however, i retried the "create new Apple ID" method as how the support said and it had the "none' option. again
