MacPro Won't Boot, Rolling Back OSX

Hello.

I guesst this is the part-2 of my journey [ Lion Downgrade to SnowLeopard, MacPro ]

So, I thought I'm all good to go with my new MacPro but after setting up my user accounts and permissions and some applications, I got this problem.

Here's a little backtrack, I needed to roll back OSX for our primary application Avid MC5 :

Reformatted Hdrive/Installed SnowLeo. CD (10.6.3) / installed UpdateCombo (10.6.8) [target mode-MAcPro-MacPro-FW800]
migrated user account/files using MigrationAssist. [target mode]
Snow running well, AvidMC-5 on migrated user account
set permissions of hard drives (info/sharing&permission)
got errors (error16) when launching apps like Photoshop, Audition-trial...
Shut down to reboot... NO BOOT (only gray apple)

Now, I'm running DiskUtility, repairing permission via target mode...

Any ideas or recommendations?

Wow, three hours and it is still repairing...can someone tell me if this is normal?

It's a 500Gig internal/system drive via TargetDiskMode.

I'm leaving it running tonight. I hope these HDDs doesn't heat up or anything.

Alright, fifteen hours and repair is still going on (estimate still says "10 min"). Any suggestions?

I feel like giving up...reformatting anytime..soon... 😟

wow, this is a first for me. just to check, did the mac pro come with lion originally(lazy to read back)?

can the mac pro boot to safeboot?

Hello.

Yes, came with Lion, reformatted to SnowL (10.6.8) via TargetDsikMode because SnowCD wont boot on the CDdrive. Ran ok for several days. Crashed due to some permission problem.

I THINK I'LL REFORMAT....down time is hurting us.

Now, cancelling the epic permisson repair...

I booted in RecoveryMode then DiskUtility/Repair, startup and tada!

Thanks for all your help! I hope it's gonna stay for long. I'm gonna be observing it.

just run another permission repair. you can probably move that folder to a different location, restart the load the digidesign software to see if it is still working. or you might need to uninstall digidesign.

ok. actually it's a series of messages for all those items/folers.

I'm afraid it affected my AvidMC dongle key/license as it wont activate anymore.

I am, but it looks like another epic. It's been repairing for more than 1 hour now. Any other suggestions.

i think it is really not working out.

can you try applejack? download it from macupdate.com and install it.

after installation, shutdown, boot then press and hold command key and "S", single user mode.

on the black screen, type applejack AUTO restart

it is case sensitive, just let it run and once done, it will automatically restart.

Do you know why permission repair takes a long time in normal boot than in in recovery mode? Are they doing the same thing?

Recovery mode = 10 mins

Normal mode = forever!

the only difference i can think of would be the other services that's running in normal mode.

did you try applejack?
