Attempt to burn failed - 4450 error

I see at least two other people have encountered this error. I put a new CD in and attempt to burn some purchased songs to it. The process starts, looks like it's working on the first song, and then I get a message that iTunes is cancelling the burn and the error:

"The attempt to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred. 4450."

When I check the CD, all the tracks are list as 1KB .cda files which is, of course, enough to make the CD useless.

I found a KB article at one point that suggested updating my CD drivers. I checked but there were no newer ones that what I have installed already. Has anyone solved this problem in any other way? My CD drive is listed as LG CD-RW 8080B when I look in device manager. I also just updated to the latest version of iTunes.

I need more information about your hardware configuration. Please run the iTunes Help menu -> Run CD diagnostics and post the output here.

jmdrum88,

Let's start with the support page for your computer. Go there and download and install the update labeled "Sony CRX215E5 48X CD-RW Drive Firmware Update".

If that doesn't work, come back and we'll try something else. But you're running an old version of firmware on that drive. The latest version is 5.0F and you're running 5.0E, so let's start with that.

I agree, I think this is an itunes issue. I've never
had trouble & always used Maxell cd's, now can't burn
with them or other brands. I've seen too many other
unsolved post just like this, burns 1 song, then
stops. Very frustrating there is no support.

I'm fairly certain it's not the CDs. After trying everything under the sun to do this from my Compaq, I moved the songs I purchased to a laptop and tried again. It worked, no problem. Well, I have to amend that, one little problem in that the CD won't play on a player that isn't R/RW compatible like other discs I burn do. That's kind of annoying. Basically I think Apple had a nice idea with iTunes, but the restrictions just make it too hard to deal with.

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions.

I too have the EXACT same error after having been able to burn MANY cd's or PURCHASED music from itunes. I put in a trouble ticket, got a completely worthless answer, and it's still not fixed. I've tried lots of different blanks, including tonight when I tried a different brand... still no luck.

This really *****. I want money back for the 5 iPods my family has and the countless CD's we've bought on iTunes.
