Macbook Pro i7 2.2Ghz - 16Gb??

I have seen online, in forums, and now retailers selling the Macbook Pro's with 16Gb?

I have the 2.2Ghz with 8Gb, i7 from around April 2011..

I spoke to apple and they say 8Gb is max, but all other ads, and online forums now say it takes 16Gb? 🙂

Is this true but not officially supported?

And does it actually see the full 16Gb or is it compromised because Apple say its not supported?

Am confused..?

I have read that the faster speed RAM (1600 MHz) may work in a 2011 MBP. Macs are known top be selective with RAM so there is an element of risk. Even if it works, the performance increase is very small.

Personally I suggest installing RAM with the specifications that Apple recommends: 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM. The best sources for Mac compatible RAM are OWC, Crucial and Datamemorysystems.

Ciao.
