iPod Classic

I have an iPod classic and I cannot download any songs on it. It is constantly freezing my iPod when it is connected to my computer and it is constantly freezing my iTunes. I have reset my iPod and tried to restart my iTunes but nothing is working. I even followed the instructions on this site and I cannot even get 2 songs to show up on my iPod. What do I do now?

I did purchase (with a warranty) a refurbished ipod classic 7th gen from a gamestore. It is still having the same issues, not synching all the way or too slowly. This was all trying automatic syncing. Do you think manually transfering the songs from the library to the device may work. Also, if not that, can it be the computer? If I transfer all the music from one laptop to another by flash drive or such will the syncing maybe work then?

Hello. Manually putting the music on stalled out around 8000 songs. Transfering the itunes library to another laptop did not seem to help. Trying the automatic sync, it stalled around song 7000. Messages such as the folder or disk can not be found and such like saying it is corrupted often come up. I'm wondering if it is something with the itunes version (It is updated) or something else? Maybe there are problem files, but I am guessing that's unlikely. Anyway, I don't have much knowlege on computers so do you have any more suggestions/places to look? Thanks.

I think my hard drive may be failing. I have an iPod Classic 80GB, I'm not sure what generation it is but it was bought in 2007 new. I am having a lot of problems with it, I can't plug it in my laptop without it crashing iTunes and when I do manage to make it work by some miracle it takes so long to sync any songs and even then it gives up and says there's an error and all songs are wiped off. I ran the test you spoke about in the post and here are the results:

Retracts: 9

Reallocs: 4928

Pending Sectors: 80

PowerOn hours: 460

Start/Stops: 25018

Temp: Current: 33c

Temp: Min: 51

Temp: Max: 254c (this sounds bad...!)

Comparing them to yours this does not look hopeful!

I hope you can shed some light.

Thanks 🙂

What is a bad number of reallocs and pending sectors? I can't find anywhere it says how many is too many or "bad"..so any help would be appreciated. And 2nd question before I try it, will the

Mac: Run Disk Utility / Repair Disk for the equivalent process you mentioned delete my songs or reformat my ipod?

My stats are:

Retracts: 85

Reallocs: 10

Pending Sectors:6

PowerOn Hours: 727

Start/Stops: 14084

It won't recognize on my mac itunes and it says "Mac OS X can’t repair the disk “AVERY.” "You can still open or copy files on the disk, but you can’t save changes to files on the disk. Back up the disk and reformat it as soon as you can." Idk why it is doing this. It won't even show up on my itunes and i have thousands of songs that are on my ipod and not on my computer..

I just sent a message a few minutes ago. I still want to know about what I asked..but wanted to just add: for some reason after i did the manual diagnostics test to get that info i connected my ipod to my computer again to see what happened(if anything different) it popped up about 4 times sayiong I don't have permission to sync automatically(which I don't want to). Anyhow the big problem was that it showed an error and wouldn't even show up in itunes and now..it does. I'm confused as to why like what changed?

My ipod is finally coming up on my itunes but I can't add any songs because it suddenly says I don't have permission and I had to say "ok" several times and then another message came up saying error (i think 0-61 or 64) It was error 0-60to64 one of those. Is there any way I can transfer all my ipod songs to my computer? I paid a good price for this and then some

Hey tt2 I think it's great that so long after your post about the ipods you're still helping people with their iPod issues.

I have an issue with my classic 6th 80gb that I can't find answers for.

When I plug it in to iTunes it makes iTunes stop working/crash.

When I go to my computer and right click on the iPod it makes the My Computer Folder crash.

It has only 8 reallocs.

When I purchased it the iPod has music on it, which I could scroll through but it wouldn't play. I resotred and updated the iPod but now I can't upload any music onto it and am not sure why.

The iPod turns on fine, seems to work in a normal way, no Red X or anything.

Do I need a new hard drive or is this a fixable problem?

I dropped my iPod classic the other day and since then it's pretty much been frozen. I ran the diagnostic and it came up with 64 reallocations and 128 pending sectors. I tried to check the hard drive for errors but a message comes up saying "The disk check could not be performed because Windows can't access the disk". The iPod is definitely in disk mode so I'm not sure what to do... Any ideas what I can do or do you think my iPod is completely stuffed?

I am going crazy with this kind of problem: I have an iPod Classic of late 2011. I have had it replaced because of battery issues, and since then I have experienced four times (!) the same problem: the iPod freezes, the apple appears, and when the device restarts it's completely empty (my library is about 100 gb). When I try to restore it, iTunes says it can't do it because it can't find the iPod, despite of the fact that it appears when connected (and iTunes, after thinking about it quite long, says it's corrupted and has to be restored). Only once I've been able to restore it, but it has frozen again (and frozen iTunes too, I had to force the re-start of the Mac) and the disc made an ominous criiic-criiic sound. Fortunately it keeps happening before the replacement warranty of 3 months expires and I get a replacement, but this is really frustrating!
