iPod Classic

I have an iPod classic and I cannot download any songs on it. It is constantly freezing my iPod when it is connected to my computer and it is constantly freezing my iTunes. I have reset my iPod and tried to restart my iTunes but nothing is working. I even followed the instructions on this site and I cannot even get 2 songs to show up on my iPod. What do I do now?

The power on hours relates to the time the drive has been actively spinning rather than the duration of music playback.

The stats don't look too serious. Try a DFU restore. Connect the iPod to the USB cable then press Menu & Select like a normal reset but keep holding for 12 seconds. The device should reboot as normal and then the screen should go blank. iTunes should detect a device in "recovery mode" and offer to restore it. With luck this time it will be successful.

Other things to try are a different lead, a different computer or a different operating system. i.e. ask a friend with a Mac to try restoring it.

fixed it, what you have to do is go through every step, but instead of pressing IO go to power/battery (i forgot what it it) go through all those tests, if yhey come up possitive (and it passes all of them) (oh yea, do do the IO test to test the hard drive) now after this try to restore the iPod, it restored on my first try after checking the power, but it may take more, judging by my luck it may take up to 5 tries, may be more, so i now have a succesful hard drive.... i love the iPod classic.... ITS A HARD DRIVE WITH A SCREEN, this has more storage than my 2000 dell desktop, lol, whats not good about extra storage, plus a screen to access some of it..... ITS A HARD DRIVE WITH A SCREEN!

Hi, have new ipod classic. It has never synced with itunes. It installs and shows up under devices but not on the computer nor with itunes. I have tried everything. If I disable it then open itunes it says it recognizes a corrupt ipod and asks to restore but the ipod is disabled and keeps connnecting and disconnection on it's own. When I click the restore button itunes locks up and I have to manually shut it down. Then the next time I connect it and open itunes it isn't recognized. I have tried everything listed that I am able too with itunes not recgonizing it. Here are my stats:

retracts: 0

reallocs: 0

pending sectors: 0

poweron hours: 15

start/stops: 432

temp: current 30c

temp: min 17c

temp: max 55c

Any other suggestions? I can return it but what a pain, plus it was purchased several months ago and given as a Christmas gift. thanks

Yea, looks bad to me too, but there's always away to fix it. Is it really old? But I think it can, just restore a couple times, it might work, I had a lot but they seemed to be better now, if it won't restore after like 5 tries check your reallocs, if they went up a ton, then you will probably have to replace the hard drive. How many gigs does your iPod have, and what gen, mine is an iPod classic 5th gen with 30GB, a replacement for mine wouldn't cost much, reply soon. THx ;)

it's 4 years old, 160 GB. the problem is it won't sync and everytime i try to sync with itunes, itunes become freeze and i must restart my laptop again and again. i can't restore my ipod because it doesn't show up in itunes . but my ipod still can be used in disk mode. someone said to me it might be because of my laptop has lots of virus, but i'm not sure. so stressssssss. i really need your help. thx 😟

Put it in dfu mode, not disc hold the menu and select button for twelve secs, it will help the iPod change its software, and my iPod freezes when it syncs, only after syncing for 5 mins try this... Worst comes to worst, you get a new hard drive, but it may be more costly, maybe get a new refurbished iPod of amazon, first try DFU,

Not holding out much hope but here goes. Ipod classic 160gb. 2 years old.

My results:

retracts: 7

reallocs: 11144

pending sectors: 344

poweron hours: 517

start/stops: 31574

temp: current 23c

temp: min 7c

Was working perfectly until yesterday. Connected it to computer and windows said it needed to check disk for errors (scan and fix). I clicked ok and let it do its thing. When i opened itunes everything on the ipod had disappeared.

I have format the ipod, restored it multiple times. Ran a full disk check whick didnt show any errors. Did everything that was suggested here. The ipod is recognized by the computer. Recognized in itunes.

I have tried copying music to it, 1 album at a time. That works for a while as normal but then it starts to copy music very very slowly before eventually freezing itunes and I cant safely eject the ipod. What music did copy to the ipod works fine.

Is it buggered? 😢

Ipod stopped working a couple of weeks ago, connected it to Itunes and restored...isn't able to complete a restore simply saying the ipod is corrupt...on the ipod menus and everything work except that there is no media content on there (and I can't sync anything onto it)...

I've had this ipod for 3 years now so warranty is out of the question...

Is this ipod hard disk dead and is it worth replacing the drive?

Thanks

Hello. My ipod started bootlooping some time ago. Today i tried a lot of things. The drive is recognized in windows and mac but i cant see its contents. Either mac or pc can format the drive (tried different cables) In mac it says POSIX Input /output error. I tried DFU and i get 1439 on windows and 1430 on mac. I even tried the ancient spank technique. Do you think it is dead? I find extrange the fact that reallocs and pending is low but the hard drive wont work. I also tried US partition master... Thanks for the help
