Transfer purchases to another ID

I do agree that I did some uncalled for ranting in a technical support forum, and I do apologize.

Still, it really annoys me sometimes how hard they make things. And for the record, the gift card I was referring to was a gift. And I don't qualify for a Japanese account, so I'm stuck with a gift that I can't use.

And no, I have no bigotry against United Statesonians at all. I do on the other hand, sometimes have quite big difficulties with American laws that affect me in a very high degree in Norway or other places.

The only US laws that should effect you with regard to Apple would be the import/export laws which restrict the sale or exportation of Apple products to certain rogue states, such as North Korea.

That's not likely anything to do with the law, that is Apple's corporate culture, which errs on the side of modesty in what is sold in it's stores.

All you seem to be saying in such an acidic manner was "too bad; poor stupid you"! Yikes! I apologize for my ignorance and that I dared bare it in your presence. I am not versed in the world of Apple... I am a novice from the world of a PC... trying to migrate quickly to the world of Apple when I picked up an iPad for my 80 year old mother to simplify her experience with devices. It worked and she loves her iPad and email and the whole new way to navigate the internet for her. She placed apps on her iPad that my kids would like... I decided to pick up one for my kids to use so she wouldn't have to share so much. I did not know that the AppleIDs were so dedicated. I can change my email but not my AppleID... this caused major drama at home as my kids lost all their progress and they don't want their Apple ID/Game CenterID to be that of their Grandmother's (Bette!) ... when I set up the iPad .....it made no mention of this scenario ... it just said "Create an ID"... if I had known... Gramma's ID would have been more unisex and generic! Additionally, I am not looking to duplicate the apps I wish to transfer from the old ipad...just want them moved. I don't understand why this cannot be managed... the database would have the original source ID and also that of the ID requesting transfer. That's all. I am sad that you felt it necessary to be mean rather that thoughtful in your approach to help me gain understanding...because I really want to learn. You have the expertise... but the temperament... there's room for improvement.

There wasn't anything in your previous post that indicated that you wished to learn anything. There was no introduction that you came from the Windows PC world. You didn't ask for any help with anything, you made a declaration, a statement. It was in the form of a rant. In a honey pot.

As to the reason that a user cannot merge Apple IDs or transfer content from one Apple ID to another, Apple owns very little of the content of the hundred's of thousands of apps available from the iTunes App Store; iLife, iWork and maybe a couple of others, everything else belongs to the developers. And Apple's agreement with them is like it's agreement with the other content owners of the music, movies, TV shows, books, etc., the content is licensed from the content owner to the Apple ID that was used to acquire the content (paid or free.)

You are correct. I apologize. I'm a Mom with 4 kids that tried to solved one problem for my mom and kids... and unwittingly created a hellish entry into the world of Apple. OOOOOOMG! I was at my wits end and I let loose. I apologize. But I beg to differ about needing to have to express a need to learn... the very nature of support and community forums is to question, learn, and problem solve. I guess with your experience on the front lines... I thought you might see the fact that I was (and am) bleeding from my eyes. LOL. I understand ownership/agreements. Just wish it better for new users... hard lessons learned that could have been avoided ... that initial setup/ create ID makes no mention of the ramifications of additional devices and differing IDs. If you deactivate your original computer, you can manage the number of devices, and keep updating. Unfortunately, if your computer died and/or you wiped a computer and sold it off without deactivating it, you're stuck.

If you have 5 computers activated with the same Apple ID and one of the computers dies or one is wiped and sold off before deactivating the computer, you can de-activate all 5 computers at once followed by re-activing the computers currently being used with the same Apple ID.

I have the same thing. I bought boom beach with my old apple id account, but then i made a new one and got a 25 dollar gift card, but now I can't use it and it *****.

I don't really know what all the content of this thread is but in the UK it is entirely lawful to transfer a licence. It's the same in the EU. Software companies have changed policy to comply with this. I have software which is boxed so easy to show that I actually have it and I can sell that licence on ebay and the companies do allow transfer. They have to. I don't really know what Apple have to say about this or what is in their EULA but any EULA is utterly meaningless if it flaunts against the law. You should be able transfer app store licences to another person's ID because some of the software is quite expensive. If Apple says different and make this impossible then Apple believe they are above the law. If this is the case don't buy software licences from them.

You are speaking about law that pertains to software on tangible media. This is software only obtainable by digital download with a built-in anti-piracy system that makes transferring the software unusable without the proper Apple ID and password. The law may be very different in this respect.

Posts such as yours start to verge on areas that will get them removed by the forum moderators and your account shut down if you persist.

When I setup my original Apple ID it was a @gmail account I used. I am now thinking about moving this to one of my @icloud accounts. Can I do that through managing apple ID and retain access to the content I purchased through the original @gmail address tied to it or am I only able to switch to @icloud and always have to enter my @gmail credentials to unlock the years of purchases I made with it ?

You can update your Apple ID to another email address if required, however I do not believe an iCloud email can be used as a main address for an Apple ID.

If you update your gmail address to another email (not an icloud address) for your AppleID using appleid.apple.com all your purchases will be retained and you can access them with your new email address as you are simply changing the user name of the account. nothing more.

Actually I do not believe that is true, Phil. I don't think you can create an AppleID using an apple mail account, but you can change the user id to the associated mail after the fact. Not 100% on that.
