Is siri on iPad 3?

Is siri on iPad 3? It does not say so anywhere on Apple's iPad 3 pages.

It better be. I won't buy one otherwise.

Is there ANY logical reason that Siri was not included on the new iPad? 😠

Sure. Siri requires an Internet connection because the processing is done at Apple's data centers. This is not an issue with a phone, because a phone almost always has a data connection of one type or another.

The iPad is much different. Millions of iPads are wi-fi only. There may be long stretches such a commute when they have no Internet connection. This would make Siri far less accessible than on an iPhone, which a customer would interpret as not being reliable. I could see Apple putting Siri on the 4G iPad, but maybe they felt it was one variation too many.

Also, an iPad just isn't as accessible. Walking down the street you can pull an iPhone out of a pocket and ask within 5 seconds. With an iPad you have to dig the thing out of a bag.

The iPad might also not be equipped with the noise-cancelling mics that the iPhone has. But then again it as dictation, so who knows. It could be that Apple still considers Siri in beta (they haven't announced that it isn't) and therefore not ready for a wider hardware profile.

Dah•veed, great addition to my point of view, obviously yours is more informed, but I would contend that it is basically the same point. Siri just wasn't ready for iPad, and that is the only reason it wasn't included.

You make clearer than I did: "ready for iPhone" does not translate to "ready for iPad." And its not only the obstacle you describe, but undoubtably a laundry list of others. The iPad is not "a giant iPhone," despite what early nay-sayers tried to claim. They are two different animals, used in different ways and environments, and Apple can't just interchange parts and technologies willie-nillie. And, as you point out, Apple makes an honest effort not to ship something that doesn't work well (unlike some of its competitors).

The obstacle you describe will be overcome. And if Apple had more resources Siri might have been ready for iPad. (I referred to these resources as "programmers," you were more accurate: as that includes outside tech as well). If the Audience tech is something hardware, then I can't argue your point about waiting for an iPad 3 to get it, it's either there or not. But if it is merely software, or firmware, then there is no reason a current iPad can't be upgraded to include it. If its dictation works, it is fair to assume it might be using that very tech, yes? So it might, in fact, be part of iPad already.

I disagree with you, however, that a fully functional Siri cannot be accomplished sooner than later, or that I should not rely on Apple to solve this quickly, or that waiting some number of months is a mistake, or doing so somehow means I am not right for this product. Ridiculous. Six months is a very long time in tech. I forget which, but one of the big boys at one of the big phone-making companies (and I paraphrase) swore that Apple (Jobs) was out their minds thinking they could build a viable smart phone and do well in that market, first time out. That it takes years of phone building experience to compete. That notion was not to accurate, now, was it? Six months after "anyone had heard of an iPhone" phone makers were well on their way to producing there own. And due credit: they had a lot less time to get theirs working then Apple did. But they did it, and it didn't take very long at all.

Yes, Siri is not ready (and as you point out, wasn't even ready for iPhone), but Apple has a lot at stake to get Siri working, and working well, across all their devices quickly. I hope they succeed.

And to label all this "Star Trekesque" is also absurd. We'll have all this in our hands in a few years, if not months. It won't be some future "Star Date!" I remember reading a bit about one of the later Star Trek movies, the one that was set in a time prior to the Star Trek TV series was, having trouble designing the characters' communicators. They had to figure out how to reconcile the fact that current mobile phones were already centuries more advanced than the communicators used in the TV series, which is set centuries into the future.

And with all due respect, I'm thankful Steve Jobs, and hopeful that his legacy, has more faith in their own imagination and the ability to bring it to life, than you apparently do...

You misread me señor. Star Trekesque was not ment to be absurd, but a future that I look forward to when we can interact with our Macs the way that the folks in the ST universe interact with their computers. But if the tech to accompish that was not included in the hardware of the new iPad, and we do not know today if it was, then it is not something that can be added in six months or by DEC 2012. It could not be added to this new iPad ever, as it cannot be added to the previous ones.

I have great faith in the legacy Steve Jobs has left and the road map he helped chart for Apple's less distant future. I think that this will take a bit more time to accomplish than you do. I do not see Apple in a rush.

Siri is very over-rated. You are not going to find a decent situation where it comes in handy. I have a 4s. And like many others, I was soooo excited for siri. You wont really use it in the home, and I woulden't use it in public, It would just create a scene.

"I need an Italian restaurant"

"I have found 3 italian restaurants nearby"

How often are you going to be in the middle of nowhere and have no idea where a local italian restaurant is? The only thing I use siri for is to play songs, for example "Play (Song name)" or "Next song" or "pause". Siri Is nothing but a toy. The commercials show the ONLY examples siri can be used for. When you ask siri how to do something, she doesnt tell you or anything like that, she simply looks it up on wolfram alpha and shows you a webpage. And then there is the headache when she misinterprets what you said... "Im sorry, but I dont know what you mean by ..."

Your foolish not to buy an ipad because of siri.

After reading all of these posts. I like to share my thoughts.

Some one up in this thread said that Siri needs internet connection to work i have Siri on my Iphone 4 NOT 4S Iphone 4 and i use to turn onn and off devices like TV, PS3, control thermostat and start my Car.

I use Siri mostly on my home network. Point being if i can configure Siri to do all of these things is it really hard for Apple to add Siri on iPad.

Someone also said Ipad does not noise canceling Mic.

well there is a dictation capability on ipad which uses same mic with noise canceling capability.

Siri is not fully developed.

I like to say LOL. i wrote scripts that allow you to update your status on Facebook and tweeter. If i can then I’m sure Apple can too.

Bottom like Apple likes making money for everything and i mean everything.

Iphone 4 the look.

Iphone 4s Siri

Ipad WIfi

Ipad2 3g

New Ipad screen

Its not that they don’t have the capability or it’s not possible for them.

They just like to make money

thants all, but not to worry i guarantee you that it someone out there will soon enough add Siri to New Ipad.

Is siri on iPad 3?
