iPad 2 crashed on update to iOS 5.1

I just tried to update my iPad 2 to iOS 5.1 and I got the old dock connector and iTunes logo.. asking me to restore.

There was no option other than to restore.

I have just finished updating my iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S - both went smoothly.

I back up to the cloud from my iPad. I hope I have not lost stuff that is not backed up to the iCloud. Or is it all backed up ?

eg. GoodReader Documents ?

Any one had a similar problem..? What went wrong... is this something I should have anticipated ?

I have just tried to update my iPad2 to IOS 5.1.1 and got an unknown error, I had downloaded the update first. Now all I get is the connect to iTunes screen. The same thing happened when updating to 5.1, to fix it I had to take it to our local Apple store at a cost of £5. I had tried the technical suggestions from the forums without success. In future I am just going to take it to the store and get them to do it as no doubt the same thing will keep happening! My iPhone 4S update successfully on both occasions.

Mine also crashed (again) when doing the 5.1.1 upgrade. However, at least my iPad gets completely backed up automatically, and I was able to just reset all settings and restore it through iTunes no problem, everything went back exactly the way it was before. I don't think you need to take it to store, just follow the instructions to reset it and then restore it (assuming you've kept it backed up).

I do now. I tried to restore it using the instructions online and enter DFU mode, now the screen is completely black evenwhen I plug it into the charger. So back to the store it goes on Monday. In future and IF they get it working I will either leave it at 5.1.1 or get them to do the update. Seeing as it's crashed during the last two updates then it will probably do the same from now on.
