iTunes 10.6 crashing after upgrade
I just upgraded iTunes to 10.6, but it crashes everytime I open it.
I'm under Snow Leopard (10.6.8).
Thanks in advance for any suggestion or solution.

I tried a number of things and then decided to take the plunge and upgrade to iPhoto 11. Did the install and success, both the iPad and iPod now sync without crashing iTunes. Just hadn't gotten around previously to do the upgrade before now.
Certainly not the right answer but everything is working again.

Now it works fine....!!!!!
I hope Apple solves the problem with the new iTunes update ... Obviously, I'll wait a couple of days and see the comments before making the upgrade!!!

Same problem here - iTunes repeatedly crashes virtually every time I try to open it. Really, really bad timing as I'm supposed to be putting together a Playlist mix for my little girl's birthday party next week. Come on, Apple - get your finger out, fast (and retrain the programmer who made this ginormous **** up)...
You should re-install iTunes 10.5.* from a back up or change file endings only as a last resort as this may cause issues if/when Apple issues an update to 10.6.
The best solution is to ensure all iPhoto software, OS, and iOS are most current versions. IPhoto 11 update resolves almost all issues with iTunes 10.6 unless you are not running iPhoto or you have previously cracked other software.
Simple solution, keep your software current and minimize work arounds as they come back to haunt you.
Since I along with many others cannot access their music, and being driven mad without music I've now downloaded the Doubletwist player.
Surprised to find that this is actually a very good music player and imports your iTunes playlists if you want to. Highly recommended and unlike 10.6 iTunes it actually works.
Also now discovered that it syncs with the Amazon music store for easy downloads, and is easy to sync with iPod. Very impressed with Doubletwist and might make it my default music player. Might be a good time to say bye bye to iTunes.
After looking at various places, I found the Apple Support Express Lane. After sending them an email about iTunes crashing after trying to sync my iPad or iTouch, they sent me a Case Number and a phone number for Applecare. I then was refered to a senior tech person after what the 1st one tried did not work.
Then the senior type had me let him see my desktop, then led me thru several files and emptied some caches to trash.
After tis my iTunes 10.6 is syncing fine. All is well.

I did the same thing as rgevans76: I upgraded to iPhoto '11 (v. 9.2.2) and now my newly updated iTunes no longer crashes. I can even play music and sync to iPhone without incident... at least so far so good. A $14 fix to upgrade iPhoto.

I got the same problem, iTunes crashes each time i try to launch the App. (I'm with a OSX 10.6.8 and iTunes last version) So thanks to Time Machine, i replaced the previous version of iTunes. But the problem was not done because when i started it, a message appears saying that the iTunes Library was to recent... so i deleted iTunesLibrary.itl and replaced it with a previous one from the folder "Previous iTunes Library", of course you have to rename it with the same name than the previous one.
My iTunes now works, i have just to remember to dont update it.
With all respect....installing the latest version of iPhoto has been of help to only a handful of people. There are multiple issues with this release, many of which have nothing to do with iPhoto. Have you ever before encountered a version of iTunes that wasn't compatible with older software? I haven't before. This is also a cross-platform issue, affecting Windows PC users equally.

I have a new install of Lion and iPhoto is not even installed and it crashed.
This post has been a life (and time) saver. Thank you
Not suffered these issues before with upgrades but helps to know there is high quality knowledge out there.
All of my software is bang up-to-date, thanks. No work-arounds employed, no crack software, no updates neglected, no sermon required or welcome. And I'm certainly not going to arse around reinstalling earlier versions of anything. iTunes was absolutely fine until I downloaded the latest update to it. Now it crashes every time I attempt to open it. I think Apple need to get their act together, frankly: evidently this is a major **** up on their part that's coming back to haunt them, and us...
I want to try the approach suggested above of reinstalling 10.5.3, but I'm a little apprehensive. I don't have anything in my Library/Preferences that starts with com.apple.iTunes. I just have one file that begins with com.apple.iPod. Am I missing something? Can someone help me? I don't want to screw up my tens of thousands of songs and hundreds of playlists.
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
All of my software is also up to date. As with paradoxatplay, there are no add-ins or extensions. iTunes 10.6 would crash everytime I tried to access my apps listing in the sidebar. Reverted back to 10.5.3 and all is working again. I have had an iTunes library since iTunes was first released and never had a problem with any update before. Is there any correlation out there with the 'age' of your library and crashing? Do people with a working 10.6 have 'young' libraries?

You don't need to delete any prefs.
That is all.
