I have the exact same issue. Just downloaded the Itunes upgrade and it started crashing all of a sudden after years of working perfectly fine. I am under snow leopard 10.6 and am actively contemplating popping into an apple store and have a technician reinstall Mac OS X with the provided DVD just so as to revert to the old version of itunes.
I can't believe such issues are happening to Apple now.
I suggest the option of going back to the previous version of itunes.
Totally agree about the lack of care by Apple -- they should, by now, be aware of the problem, and at least acknowledge it (for some cases the new version crashes).
Is there a way to send a message to Apple? It is a simple matter of taking care of their customers.
Please search, under this thread, the easy way to reinstall the previous version of itunes.
It took me a couple of minutes. Better than messing with Apple / their technicians, etc.
No need to reinstall the entire OS.
I have found a link in this thread to re install the previous version but for some reason it freezes just before launching the download. Do you have a link where u downloaded the 10.5.3 version?
Thanks for the fix on the iTunes mess it worked great!
Had the same problem on my iMac, OS X 10.7.3, and just upgraded to iPhoto '11. I just made sure I had photos and music backed up.
can i trash the two itunes libraries that were moved to the desktop after the import? or am I supposed to move them back into the itunes folder?
thanks for instructions on how to downgrade
Hi Obson
I searched for the original thread where I used to download the previous version of itunes. I couldn't locate it, unfortunately.
However, I found this link for you which may be the same:

Apple's Direct Download Link for iTunes v10.5.3 for Mac OS X.
I trust this helps. I will continue to search for the original note, and if I find it I will let you know.
I have nothing constructive to add. I just want to say, this really *****.
¿How can I return to the previous version of iTunes? I tried to use my backup in TimeMachine but it doesn´t allow me to do it.
I am using Lion with all my computers... ¿What is going on with Apple?

I just downloaded the older version of iTunes. But when I tried to install it, my Mac told me that I couldn't use it becuase the iTunes library was created by a newer version of iTunes. Am I supposed to delete my iTunes library?? I don't even know what file that would be.
I have to say- this is extremely frustrating and disappointing.
I also decided to go back to the previous version of iTunes and I followed the instructions of this thread, with success:

I will wait for iTunes 10.6.1 which I hope will solve the problems of the later.
Hey thanks everyone for your insights. I uninstalled iTunes 10.6 and installed 10.5, and everything is working great. Thanks Mercurio2012 for link to the instructions on how to do this.
by doing this, are you able to keep your play counts? I've never had done this before so I'd like to know
