How do I remove unwanted updates from the App Store?

How do I remove unwanted updates from the App Store? So you understand better what I'm referring to:

I have the App Store icon in the Dock. When there's an update a red number appears on said icon. Well, I went to check on the updates and it's for 4 different applications I either no longer have or use. One of them is an update for Lion OS users. I'm still on Snow Leopard, so it doesn't even apply to me.

So there they sit... I'm not going to download the updates... so how do I get rid of them?

Hello Andy,

As you may have seen I have added one or two comments but I am happy to write that I have now resolved my problem with the number on the App Store badge.

It took much messing about but with the aid of App Zapper I uninstalled my Cookie app entirely ... then (as I had paid for the original) reinstalled it.

The App is back (the updated version) and the badge is now clean. Hooray!

Suggest you try it. You would be using the FREE trial version of App Zapper.

Had the same problem. Just solved my situation and thought it might help to share. Found an app on my iMac / Snow Leopard desktop in the Applications folder which matched the App Store Update red alert.

The situation may be unique. I didn't realize the app was in my Applications folder. App Store went ahead and downloaded, despite the notifications that it wasn't compatible.

For my situation, the problem app was "Photo Transfer App". Using Finder, I dragged the application from my Applications folder into Trash. The App Store Update red alert disappeared immediately.

Hey leandrofgj,

Your suggestion worked for me. Changing the _MASReceipt name, though, wasn't enough. I had to remove it from the package. I also removed the App Store icon from the dock and re-added it.

I tried to find a solution for this off and on for several months. Thanks for clearing the way for me to find some other thing to quibble about (with no red update notification in my dock while I do so).

That was the first thing I did, months ago. As I said, it didn't work for me.

Anyone can plainly see that you in fact you did not say that you had tried that. I have been hiding apps that I trialed, disliked and deleted for the 2+ years that we have had the MAS and it works without fail, every time.

I do, however, appreciate that you didn't (couldn't?) properly punctuate a simple sentence in doing so.

Perhaps you could show us all how you would punctuate my sentence.
