iOS 5.1 Update: No Sound

Hey There!

I've Updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 yesterday and I'm really disappointed 😐 all my Apps have no Sound and not even other Phone Sounds like "taking a picture". I've checked The Soundbar and all Kind of Sound Settings. I've read in many Forums, that this is not only my Problem. I can't restore to 5.0.1 it says it will Update to 5.1 only 😢 what now? When will Apple bring up a Bug fixer or a better Version of 5.1 !?

Something occured to me. You know how apps have to update themselves with the lastest software version apple releases to be compatible? Well it occured to me that maybe one of my apps conflict with the new update. If the problem is related to an app then that might explain why some people have volume problems with the update and others do not, and of course Apple can't go around blaming it's "partners." Therefore I deleted every app from my phone that wasn't an apple app and reset it.

My ringer feature came back as well as keyboard sounds, etc. It's been a about 4 hours since i have done that and my ringer feature still remains and has not gone back to no sound as it has with other "fixes." I'm going to attempt to add my apps back one by one, starting with the non-media based apps first to see if I can figure out which app is at conflict with the update and make sure i don't keep it until its updated to be compatible.

Hopefully I am right and hopefully it will apply to others too. Like i said this is the longest this "soluation" has worked for me.

We have 4 devices which had the 5.1 update. Two iPhones were effected one worse than the other. The worse of the two has virtually no sound on calls however all other sound works fine.

We have done resets, reset to new iPhone and visited the Apple store technicians. No fix and no official acknowledgement from Apple there is a problem. Our backup to iCloud was somehow corrupted so we lost all data in our Apps when apple did the first reset and tried to restore using the backup. Restoring to new mean't plugging into iTunes and downloading our apps again. Frustrating.

Speaking with friends with iPhone some have had the same experience with in call volume and others with more extensive sound issues.

Why isn't Apple acknowledging their is an issue with the last update and releasing a patch?

Thanks a lot. This worked for me too. Whew! I thought that was the end of my iPad 3rd gen.

Not to further detract from getting this issue resolved, but the "mute button solution" has been mentioned already in this thread. E.g., from page 2,

dears

try this

go to general .... use side switch to .... change it from lock rotate to Mute

use the switch to mute then open it again and try your apps

tell if it works or not

it worked with me 🙂

Yea, I posted earlier that I got rid all my apps and plan on adding them back slowly and actually that seems to have work. If that is not the actually root of the problem its an interesting coincidence. My phone is basically back to normal but with I play with one of the game center apps that uses sound, the problem starts up again-no sound, but after a few minutes comes back. I haven't added ALL my apps back, just my most used ones and most of them don't use sound. Apps like pandora and tunein radio seem to work fine. I think that there might be several apps that conflict with the update which might explain the severity in problem.

In the end apple still needs to get 6 up and running if it is indeed the "cure" because APPS make the product and we can't exist without them.

I don't normally write on these but I'm having the same problem and its doing my nut in!

I just wanted to say that I was having this problem before I updated to 5.1 The sound was going just as people have described on here. However, this only started happening about a week or so ago. So I updated to 5.1 thinking it would solve the problem, but alas, no solution there!

I'm asuming, as Apple2peach is suggesting, that a third party app is to blame. Maybe a common one that has released an update over the last 2 weeks and is corrupting the OS be it 5.0 or 5.1?

My sound comes and goes. I have it in airoplane mode and on my speaker dock over night and in the morning it is fine again - but this doesn't last!

Anyway I hope a solution is found soon!!
