iOS 5.1 Update: No Sound

Hey There!

I've Updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 yesterday and I'm really disappointed 😐 all my Apps have no Sound and not even other Phone Sounds like "taking a picture". I've checked The Soundbar and all Kind of Sound Settings. I've read in many Forums, that this is not only my Problem. I can't restore to 5.0.1 it says it will Update to 5.1 only 😢 what now? When will Apple bring up a Bug fixer or a better Version of 5.1 !?

I've had this problem on my iPad 1 since the 5.1 upgrade, and the 5.1.1 upgrade didn't fix it, so I was beginning to think a restore might be in order. But I read the fix on the first page about changing the rotation lock to the mute button and back again, and I got my sound back! Oh, frabjous joy! And tsk at Apple for missing this, twice.

I got a new iPhone 4S, 2 weeks ago with OS 5.1. I compared with the same 4S with OS 5.0.1. I found that the audio volume in the new 4S is at least 40 percent lower (incoming calls, ringtons, alarm). I did full reset - no change. Exchanged the phone - no change. I talked to customer support, Apple tech support. They pretend that they know nothing about it. From tech support got a recommendation to re-exchange. But Apple store salesman in Short Hill Mall, NJ rejected my demand. This week I will go back there with my two iPhones and show him how incompetent hi is. I talked two times with Apple tech support they do not know or do not want to say why OS 5.1 and 5.1.1 decreases audio volume. The question is simple WHY Apple messing their product. And what is really defective: Software or Hardware?

If I understand your recommendation is, some how recover the previous OS on iPhone. Tech support guys just say that it is not possible. Frustrated and angry.

Ive also been going in circles with this problem. I just got it corrected tonight after trying everything else. I saw this on another site and gave it a try. A little rubbing alcohol on a toothbrush and lightly rubbed the dock. Didn't work right away then I went to settings<music<turned on sound check. Dont know which of these did it but so far so good. Good Luck. I'll repost if the sound leaves.

5.1.1 brought this problem back for me.

My wipe & restore solved it for 5.1. It was fine until a couple days *after* I installed 5.1.1. Then the sound started cutting out. A hard reset would bring it back, but within a couple minutes of me using an app that used sounds (netflix, youtube, etc) it would go away.

I tried a wipe all settings - sound came back for a couple minutes and then gone again. So I tried a wipe everything and restore. Sound came back for a few minuts and then gone again. So I did it one more time... and it didn't even come back that time around. So I did it a third time. That time I noticed that the sound was gone even before I did the restore (i.e. after the wipe when the phone was on all factory settings).

Off to the Apple Store I guess.

So I am another casuality in the update... Actions taken..

Cleared resets 5 times worked for maybe 5 minutes

Hard reset no luck

Tried to restore phone thru iTunes no luck

Tried the home button twice but no volume indicator

And no I'm not a idiot the orange isnt showing on the sound button on the side

I have had iPhones for about 6 years now and this is the first problem I have had but

Is a huge problem considering this is my business phone and I depend on it for everything from taking payment

To emergency calls. I know better than to go and talk to some idiot at AT&T who will just hand me Another problem

Need a fix if anyone has anything that I haven't tried!!

Reboot worked for me on my iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1, when I lost sound.

But .... I do some iPhone app development and I recently updated a couple of apps, free version and paid version of the same app. Both versions use almost exactly the same code and definately the same code to play sounds. The updates to the apps had nothing to do with sound. One version passed Apple review with testing against iOS 5.1.1 and the other version came back from Apple "rejected" with the statement that the sounds in the app failed to play under testing with iOS 5.1.1. Interesting to say the least.

Haven't seen anyone else on here report lower volume except for none. See this forum

Volume is much lower after upgrading my 4s to IOS 5.1???

My iPhone works and does not lose audio. Should I feel lucky. But I'm not.

Earlier this year I became the owner of two 4S/16GB (2 years contract). After careful testing, needed applications, I realized that the product it is almost perfect, except of course the battery. Accepted the fact so I need to charge the battery every day. At the end of April this year ( base of good experience with 16GB model) decided to added to my family plan third iPhone 4S/32GB. I got, unpacked and the next day I overslept for work. Just my new iPhone did not wake me. I checked, it was set correctly, but like too quiet. Looked in Apple's web I found the cause. A huge crowd of users complaining of low audio volume after making software update 5.0.1 to ver 5.1 and 5.1.1. Other iPhone’s just losing audio completely. Just another Apple’s slip-up.

Not believing what people write I decided closer check. Happily have a phone with software 5.0.1 and this new with 5.1. To my enormous surprise, everything that people have posted was true. - In addition I think Apple did not screwed the new software. Apple did it intentionally, and finally screwed its flagship product, the iPhone 4S. Well, clever engineering of Apple's innovative thinking found the way to improve battery life. They limit the audio volume by 30% and brightness of the screen - a 30% down too. - I checked.

Self-advertising excellent product, (I made the decision to buy the third iPhone based of the first software 5.0.1) by this new software has been screwed. Well let's say significantly reduced usability. The first software update from 5.0 to 5.0.1 that Apple has posted improved battery life - A LIE. The second update 5.1 they did not write anything about lower the audio levels - another LIE. What really work worse – everything. All audio options except headphones are much quieter, even incoming calls too. All the settings on max and Volume are still too low. The screen is no longer snow white but a little reddish, warm white.

Apple is hand by hand with ATT and they probably felt some loss of use iMessage (free iPhone to iPhone), so the new software to eliminate. Skype randomly asking for password. (On my iPhone with 5.0.1 works OK.) Surely there is something fishy, but not wanting to check everything I decided to go to the local Apple store and replace my iPhone. Apple Tech support said that the phone must be defective. - This way I replaced the two phones. So, by my hands passed for the comparison three iPhone’s 4S with the 5.1 software. All worked just as bad. Very angry and frustrated I decided to return the 32GB model to ATT and replace for the 16GB that I have and it works perfectly. I received the New iPhone day before yesterday and unfortunately with software 5.1. The audio is just as low.

At an Apple store naively tried to convince the vendors to give me a phone with 5.0.1 software and I give them rest and peace. However they do not want to do it. The Apple Store Rockaway, NJ, Technician No. 1446403403 admitted to me, that's right, say is a big difference in audio - I have it in writing, but he does not know what is the cause. He called Genius Administrator Tech senior Maria Mendez. Shies came and MADE stupidest answer I ever heard. “Apple has reduced the audio because of damaged speaker”. That would mean there is another serious fault - the speaker. I said, show me the service bulletin believe it. She went on for 3 minutes and then came back saying that this is an internal document of Apple's (secret) and that there can’t show me. Apple should give her a bonus for company loyalty.

Everything is one BIG FAT LIE and deception of millions customers. Apple saving company from enormous losses (recall notice for batteries) limits the usability of your product by cheating millions of current and future users. This is one GIGANTIC FRAUD. Some good Lawyer should take care of this.

Japanese Auto Company when they realize the rug in their cars that causes accidents announces the total recall. Fixes everything with Customer’s apologizes. BECAUSE they has the HONOR and RESPECT FOR CUSTOMERS. CUSTOMER SATISFACTION FOR THEM IS NOT EMPTY WORDS.

APPLE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS.

Now, I stuck with the iPhone that does not work properly, has little too low RAM for my work and nobody wants to help me. I do not care why and what did you do with this new software. Just send me a new iPhone 4S with 5.0.1 software which works well. Angry and frustrated.

Hi everybody/Apple,

I regret that I have to write a comment here again, because about 2,5 months ago I also put a comment on this forum regarding the low volume through my headphones on my IPhone 4S after the 5.1 update.

It took Apple to be honest a long time to make a new update after all the complains Apple got regarding the volume issues.

I was very happy when I saw the Apple came out with a new update (5.1.1.)

After installing the new 5.1.1. update on my IPhone 4S I hoped that the problem would be resolved.

To my geat dissapointment nothing has changed.

The volume though my headphones is still terribly low and i can only listen and enjoy my music on my IPhone if I'm in a very quiet room.

This is after almost 3 months an unacceptable fact!!!

Apple..... Please fix this problem!!!! I don't think that you guys from Apple knows what this big dissapointment means for Apple!!!!

This will mean that Apple's good name that took Steve Jobs a long time to build up, is ruined in notime.

And that simply because Apple doesn't listen to it's well paying costumers and fixes the problems that the costumers ask for.

That is a big shame on the Apple employees!!!!

So Apple..... Please help your well paying costumers by fixing our problems with your product('s).

I hope that the next update (5.1.2) doesn't take another 3 months and that when the update is launched, at least ALL our problems with the IPhone should be fixed.

So you Apple guys can start building up the "Apple" name again, that your started to ruin since the IOS 5.1 update.

The best commercial is that of a satisfied costumer that will tell his/her experience to his/her friend who then buy the same product.

Another fact: a good experience is told to 2 friends/acquaintances in general, a bad experience is told to 24

friend/acquaintances.

So this means: Bad news travels a lot faster then good news!!!

I hope you Apple guys realize that and make your costumers happy again!!!

I hope this message has at least some inpact on the conscience on the Apple crew So that they start working on our problem.

ps. forget about the battery life, charging every day is ok. and if you don't use a internet connection the whole day but just check your email a couple of times a day and don't play a lot of games all day long then the battery life is minimum 2 days.

It's logical if you use all your functions on you IPhone at the same time that this will use a lot of power and so it's normal that you have to charge your phone every day.

Just fix our volume problems please!!!!

Greetings,

Ramirez
