Volume is much lower after upgrading my 4s to IOS 5.1???

I have upgraded my iphone 4s from 5.0.1 to 5.1. I can significantly notice that the ringtone volume is much lower than before with IOS 5.0.1 installed. Of course I set the same volume level at the same place before and after I upgraded to IOS 5.1.

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.0.1

SOLUTION FOUND

Yesterday I went along with a friend who was experiencing the same problem as we all do...

We went to a place, where they repaired iphone and other mobile phone.

The guy at the counter checked it and said, the earpiece needs to to changed.

We told him this happened b'cause we upgraded to 5.1. He said I will change the earpiece and see if its working or else I will give you back your iphone that means its a software problem.

After waiting for like an hour or so... he came back with his iphone and to our surprise we could hear incomming calls as loud as it was on my phone.

Conclusion : its a hardware issue, those who's iphones are under warranty get a replacement, those who's replacement is over, see who can repair your iphone and get earpiece replaced.

Guys this fixed the problem for me, first of all the problem is in the iTune library vs the iPhone, or better yet in the way the new iPhone softaware works with the iTune music library.

1) Open itune and click on music

2) Highlight all your songs

3) Open the information window (command i) and select option

4) In volume adjustment the volume bar will be set on "none" unless you have all your songs

set at a different level, in any case move the bar anywhere "plus" or "minus", close the window allow iTune to set all your songs to the new setting, repeat the process and bring it the bar back to "none",

again close the window, allow iTune to set all our songs to none this might take a while depending

on how many songs you have

5) Last plug your iPhone in your computer and when it shows up in iTune click the iPhone then select music and finally sync, all your songs on your iPhone will be sync to the iTune music library new setting and the problem will be permanently gone....

Well, updating to iOS 6 (via iTunes) did not resolve this issue. Still a problem (ringer volume is still low even when ringer volume is maxed) on the 4s running iOS 6. 😟

Time for a new thread? Resubmitting iPhone/iOS feedback, suggest everyone does the same to put this back on the books. Getting really tired of having to use the Old Phone ringtone in order to hear incoming calls.

I do not expect any help from Apple in this case, because they do not care about customers. A few hundred thousand’s 4S with the audio problem mans for them nothing. They may have sold 25 million. We paid in full for ours phones or bought contracts so like I said they don’t care at all. Remember what it's Apple. This is a movement; it's like a Communist Party. Comrades signed an act of loyalty and since then THEIRS ONLY PRIORITY are – SPOTLES COMPANY IMAGE and PROFIT.

Except the downgrade, I tried everything and nothing restored crystal loud audio. This seems to be irreversible.

In case of earpiece replace (posted by ameyagokhale). This is interesting. How software could destroy hardware. But it is possible. My 4S is under warranty. To get a replacement phone - it's bad advice.

I replaced three with OS 5.1.1. All had the same problem. Follow the bad earpiece concept, what if every 4S with OS 5.1.1 had just damaged earpiece???

(ameyagokhale). post please the address or phone that service shop. Thanks.

Don't be so disappointed, Just let it go. Iphone is not longer innovative and competitve as before. If I remember correctly, 4s already has the loudest volume among all the iphone generations ,even louder than iphone 5 from a test article I saw. If you saw the debuts of ipad mini and ipad 4, I feel there is no pionts for releasing these 2 pads. First, just look at the specifications of ipad mini. A5 chip(cheap), 512 Ram....It's really not enough. Is Apple going to clean up its stackups? But it's fine, once I look at the prize tags. It's shocking me. Second, for the ipad 4, it's just a bit modifications from last generation ipad. why Apple is so hurried to debut them? Money.

I take it that upgrading to iOS 6 didn't help anyone where? As it did with me...

Jerryel: did you try taking the phone to a apple store to get a replacement?

Yingcong6: I agree with what your saying about the iPhone but I don't see apple changing there phones in some time as they have a winner in that it sells lots and for most of the phones will live a very long life. They seam to be going down the road of making them even more nicer to hold and hold up to drops etc as there other phones could not. Yeah the iPad mini is basally the iPad 2 but smaller, if you look at it from there point of view it makes sense to have a hi-Rez screen just like all there other screens out at the mo but cos of its size that came to be the same size as the iPad 2's screen so why have the iPad try and run the more top end apps that iPad 3, when it is a small iPad 2?

This is typical. All Apple tech deny even existence of lower audio problems after the update. They are very loyal to Apple and do not want to create any problems. So they do not even think to fix it. I lost a few weeks on convincing Apple technicians that the problem exists. I had two phones, the first under OS 5.0.1 with Crystal loud audio. And the second 4S after update to OS 5.1.1 which had 40% lower audio. I showed them the both phones. I have been in three Apple stores, NJ. They completely did not know what to do. Some of loyal Techs obviously denies problem, saying its normal. One tech said I was right - he can hear clear difference audio levels but does not know what the reason is. Three times exchanged my 4s and gave up. (yingcong6) You're telling me that the 4s already has the loudest volume - yes under OS 5.0.1. ONLY... Any update KILLS AUDIO VOLUME AT LEAST 40%.

Sorry, guys, I mentioned it wrongly from the test, iphone 5 is the loudest iphone, not iphone 4s.But iphone 5 just a bit ahead of 4s in volume. The article is too simple and there is not ios version for each phone. But from the date of the post posts, I think 4s is using the lastest version of IOS (which is 5.1 and above at least)according to that stage. the link is here:

Volume is much lower after upgrading my 4s to IOS 5.1???
