Volume is much lower after upgrading my 4s to IOS 5.1???

I have upgraded my iphone 4s from 5.0.1 to 5.1. I can significantly notice that the ringtone volume is much lower than before with IOS 5.0.1 installed. Of course I set the same volume level at the same place before and after I upgraded to IOS 5.1.

My iPhone4 suffered the same issue as everyone else, the system wide volume has gone to around 40% of it's volume on 5.0.1. Two of my friends with 16GB iPhone 4's (mine is 32GB) also updated to 5.1.1 but theirs is fine and as loud as ever!

I have saved signature blobs and downgraded back to 5.0.1 - This did not fix the issue, the volume is still 40% of my friends phones. It's as tho the 5.1.x releases have changed a hardware setting that downgrading or UI controls can't reset.

Apple need to fix this, but they seem to be concentrating more on iOS 6 now.

I just tried the following and it was no help...

1. Reset all settings

2. Downgraded to 5.0.1 (Sound was still low on reboot)

3. Updated back to 5.1.1 (9B206)

4. Set up as a new iPhone

And yep the sound is still around 40% of what it used to be 😟 I don't know what this update did but why is it only affecting some phones and why are Apple in denial?!

Face it guys. IOS 6 is in beta. 5.? is old tech now. There will only be an update to it from here on out if there is a security problem that requires it. The lack of attention only shows that apple doesn't see an issue here for whatever reason.

I am one who is affected and it's rather annoying. I had a phone I could hear and an update changed all that. I am not alone. To let this go on as it has is a clear signal that either they don't see an issue or we are all making it up. Take your pick. Why else would they ignore it?

I got very strange findings here. My wife's iPhone 4 running on 5.1.1 does not have ringer volume issue. Since there's not much choice left, I used her laptop to restore the phone, after which switch back to mine for data restore. Guess what, the ringer issue solved. Don't ask me why, I suspect the bug might be inside iTunes in my laptop.

So check this out. my volume was acting a little crazy also I looked at all my settings and seen that my Bluetooth was on so my logic behind it which makes no sense was maybe my phone thinks that it is a round a Bluetooth and the ringer is low message tones seem to be about 10% lower than when I had iOS 5 also music player was a little bit low anyways back to what I did I turned Bluetooth off and did a hard reset on the phone holding the power button and home button phone came back on went to my ringer and it was back to normal have no idea why does this but it must be some type of bug in 5.1.1 hopefully this works out for the rest of you.

I've only noticed this when listening to music and playing games at the same time (iPhone 4s 5.1.1).

I have the volume on 50% (which is loud enough). When i open a game at the same time, my volume cuts in half. if i put it to 100% it's about the same limit as i had it on previously. (volume limit off, set to full volume and sound check off). I recevied a mail notification and the volume shot back up to 100%.

I may have found a quick fix for the issue without resetting, but i can't replicate the volume "bug" as such.

Perhaps someone with the same problem can try:

If you're listening to music and the volume is lowered suddenly on a notification and doesn't revert to normal volume, go to the homescreen and hold the middle button down to invoke siri. Simply cancel it immediately and the volume of your music should return to normal. You might want to lower it from full first 😉 (worked for me but mayb be other serious issues affecting your problem).

i've had the same problem.
even looked around here for a solution, without luck

i stumbled upon a solution by accident yesterday, and hopefully it will work for you guys to.
(please let me know if it does)
this is what i did
i turned on my volume to 100%
and noticed that the lock-sound was still pretty low when i locked it
so i opened a random game (with sound) and noticed that the volume in the game was around 50%
so i turned it up to 100% and exited the game
locked the phone and hey presto, it was as loud as it should be again
it seems that the phone is confusing it self with the different sound settings
(you might need to try a couple of apps to find where the sound is lowered)
I know its not a perfect solution, but at least you can go around the problem till Apple fix it
hope it helps guys
