after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I've had problems with updates and also purchasing apps and music and getting Unknown Error message since upgrading the iOS before the weekend so I phoned Apple Support this morning and very helpful - got it sorted straightaway and recommend all that have problems do that rather than trying fixes from the internet etc. Basically though it's a wi-fi conflict and involves resetting it so unless you're confident about doing this I'd phone them and they'll resolve it for you!!

I reset the network settings and I still have the same issue with download apps and updating apps. Unless did they mean to reset all settings as opposed to just resetting network settings? I'll contact Apple Support myself today on the online chat and see what they have to say on the issue.

Can't find the post that mentioned it, but just signing out of the app store through settings -> store fixed this for me. yay!

I think they wanted you to reset all settings. I talked to them and they are going to call me at home this afternoon when I am near the phone.

I have an iPhone 4S through Verizon, and have been dealing with this same problem. After trying most everything in the above discussion thread, I called Verizon this morning and was transferred directly to Apple, where I received a simple piece of advice. All I had to do was to open iTunes on my computer (I have a Macbook) and update all of my applications there. When those updates were finished, I synced my iPhone, and the updates successfully transferred to the phone.

Hopefully that won't always be necessary, but for now I'm grateful to be rid of the "Waiting" messages.....

Yes it was reset all settings and that's why I think it's best to call support and they'll take you through the correct process and make sure it's all set up correctly - good luck!

I updated my iPhone on my computer this morning and yes it did update the apps on my iPhone but when I tested an app purchase I still got 'Unknown Error' message and it wouldn't go through, to check it's cleared that problem also purchase a free app to test if it's ok.

Another person here with this problem... Apple, 5.1.1 needs to come out a fix this crap. It's annoying.

Hi Guys, I think a have the solution... it worked for me and I also had the same problem: apps won't download since 17.03.2012.

Download and run:

i-FunBox

in the tree, go to:

Raw File System

- Downloads <folder>

and delete everything inside this folder.

Reboot and try again.

Maybe there was a stuck download making this problem !!!! I think my App "Discovr Movies" caused the problem, maybe when trying to update.

I used iFunBox, opened /var/mobile/Media/Downloads (as my iPod is jailbroken), and deleted everything in the folder (all of it). I was a little worried because I was stupid and didn't backup any of the files, but I restarted my iPod by holding both the power and home buttons and when it started back up, the apps were normal. I tried to open one as a test and it began loading like a charm!

EDIT: I'm using iOS 5.0.1, but it should work for iOS 5.1 as well. If your iPod is not jailbroken, follow the link and read the post.

I upgraded to ios 5.1 and not only do I now have huge problems downloading anything from apps to music from iTunes using either my wifi network or 3G but my music has been completely screwed up: some albums won't play at all (the listing is there but the bar doesn't move when I press play) and others have got entangled - for example, if I try to play one of my Muse albums, I get Paloma Faith instead!

I have tried syncing, restoring from back-up, a hard boot etc. I'm all out of ideas. Help anyone?

Same problem we updated on the iPad but it kept it at waiting help

I download iexplorer and followed the direction. Then re-booted. I was able to download 1 application and then I tried a second and it stayed at waiting. So basically it did not work. I noticed when I rebooted that a file was replaced back into the folder called download.28.sqlitedb
