after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

g'day scott...my iphone 4s had this problem, it would come up with unknown error for download or update of apps...I installed iexplore on the phone as stated in another comment and it seems to have done a system check on the phone...I haven't even deleted the downloads as requested by the other user...i scrolled through and had a look at what it discovered and then deleted it...i then attempted to download some of my apps that i deleted and well bugger me if it is now working fine...its like it was posessed for a few days and now has been reborn....mmm...Dalys from Alice Springs Australia

Deleting all files in the Downloads folder with iExplorer as descibed in the post from seanxpert fixed it for me.

I just tried to do that this morning but after 10 minutes of a never ending list of files in the downloads folder I gave up. I was able to get one app downloaded then it went back to being stuck.

I tried iTunes and it won't download music either to my iPhone.

I've scanned through this entire thread and so far I haven't seen any response from Apple.

I'm having this problem with my iPad 1, which is WiFi only, and my iPhone 4. Both hang up when I'm trying to update apps or download a new app from the app store.

I've tried all of the solutions pitched here so far and nothing has worked. I'd really apreciate it if the people who went to the Apple Store and did some sort of full reset would actually give some detailed instructions (we understand the risks, we won't blame you, but some of us don't have an Apple Store close by).

The part I find truly annoying is the zero response from Apple.

Just looked thru the whole thread. This prob started immediately after updating to 5.1. I never changed anything on my iPad or the settings in iTunes. Yet, now, can't download ANY apps via wifi; can't download ANY app updates via wifi. I have an iPad 1. Now, I have to connect to my computer to sync and download purchased apps and app updates. I have to manually check for updates even tho they appear on my ipad, then download the updates, then APPLY the updates, then SYNC again. Seems that every IOS update since 4.3 has been fraught with issues that adversely affect functionality in some form or other. Reminds me of Microsoft's incompetence. Whatever needs to happen, I hope it happens soon because this situation is untenable as far as I'm concerned.

I too submitted a bug report to Apple and included a link to this set discussion thread. I agree that everyone needs to submit a bug report. I would also recommend everyone start calling the Tech Support line. I did and they were willing to listen to the problem and try and help but the help was basically reset you iphone back to factory settings which I don't want to do.
