after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

Nope, spoke too soon. My iPhone 4 is working, but not the New iPad. I can sync with my PC though so I'm not taking any other heroic actions till Apple figures this out. I also have done everything except deleting the download files (which didn't seem to work for everyone) and I did a complete restore when I set up the new iPad, so do not want to do that again yet.

I may be wrong, but I just was able to download an app without the Eternal Waiting problem. Maybe Apple have quietly fixed this in the background.

I was hoping that this would be the case to get downloads working again. When I updated to iOS 5.1 it worked fine for a full week and then this download issue randomly popped up. From what I saw on this discussion is that not everyone was affected the same way. Some got it immediately after upgrading to iOS 5.1 and some got it after some time has gone by. In most cases the apps download and update after waiting, which has lead me to think that it's a mix of iOS 5.1 and back end.

Hi Champagne,

While in iTunes:

-click on the APPS tab in the Library area, NOT in the one relating to your iPad/iPhone.

-Go to the bottom of the screen and click on the "Check for Updates" arrow;

-when you get to the updates screen, all of the apps either in need of updating or purchased, should be present;

-Click on the Update all Apps icon (upper right), and all the apps will either be downloaded or updated to the apps you already own;

-Once this is done, you will have to SYNC your device again

-The apps were previously just downloaded to iTunes, NOT your device;

-When you get to step 5 or 6 of the SYNC, you will see the apps being updated on your device.

Off the top of my head, but should be correct since I've had to do it so many times. However, if anyone sees an error, please correct. Thx

I logged out then back into my itunes account on my iPhone then went back to update and download new apps and all was good. Pretty weird fix!

I gave that a try again since before it wouldn't let me log out of the App store. I'd click log out and restart the phone and I'd be logged in! This time it actually logged me out and I was able to log back in. I downloaded one app just fine then the one got stuck in waiting again. This fix seems like a hit or miss for people.

Go here: www.apple.com/feedback/

Choose your device, then write a full description of the problem. Include a link to this thread so they can see that multiple users are experiencing this.

Do this for each device you have (why not?). Pester and be persistent. So far I've seen nothing online to indicate that Apple is acknowledging this problem, so keep hammering until they fix it.

Good luck.

I've tried it on both my iPhone and my iPad and this didn't help me. Actually, I've tried some pretty bizarre suggestions, including one that said to delete my Exchange Server account information in the Mail settings and restart the phone. Nothing. Glad this worked for you, though.

I actually forgot to mention that after I signed out, I powered off my iPad--figured it couldn't hurt. Then powered it back on, signed back in, and it worked. A small difference, but not unworthy of trying. Hope you figure it out.
