after ios 5.1 update apps won't download

I had trouble downloading the ios 5.1 update, but found a thread on here that pointed me to an open dns address, so i typed that in the dns field and it worked. I have the updated ios 5.1. I went back and deleted the dns address, connected to my local wi-fi and the internet and all functions seem to work fine, but when i try to download an app, whether it's one i used to have or a new one, it won't download. It begins to, then the icon flashes waiting/loading, waiting/loading, then a screen pops up that says "unable to download application. "imovie" could not be downloaded at this time. done, retry"

It's not just imovie, I've tried others as well.

i turned off and turned on. I can't sync now because i'm away from my laptop. i have verizon iphone 4s.

I have filled out the form at the feedback link provided but there is no guarantee that Apple will acknoledge any problem at all unless the probem is really widespread and maybe even reported on by the internet sites covering Apple, like TUAW or CNet. Look at the Conflict Sync issue that has been present for years with no Apple fix (although users have found a fix) as well as the photos taken with an iPhone coming up sideways in windows.

Powering off seems to have worked, for now. Powered back on, signed in and was able to download an app update via wifi. Also downloaded a NEW app, and that worked as well.

I filled out a trouble report this am before I came to the discussion. So maybe Apple will address soon. Bottomline is we shouldn't have to go through all these steps to regain an inherent functionality. Thx for the tip.

This is seriously rediculous that it is taking Apple this long to fix this major issue. Most of us rely on particular apps that assist with day to day needs that require updating. And I need to download new applications for work and I cannot do that since ios5.1 practically prevented my iphone from doing just that. I am not impressed Apple.

Hi All,

Same problem. No can do updates without connecting to my PC since the updated IOS 5.1.

Sent a request via email support for help and no help yet. They did not admit any problem They (Apple) wanted me to send them a image of my screen with error message. I told them, there was no error message just an app that is in waiting mode forever. I tried the reboot. I tried updating only one app at a time. I waited forever to no avail. So I had to delete the apps on my ipad. Go to my desktop, download the updates in ITunes by clicking on the apps icon then click at the bottom of the page "check for updates". Once all the updates loaded on my PC in Itunes, then I connected my ipad to sync the updates. I have nothing pending to download. I should not have to hack into my ipad to as suggested by someone with iexplorer. This is a program update problem and APPLE SHOULD FIX IT. THEY HAVE PLENTY OF MONEY SO KEEP THE PROGRAMERS OVERTIME TO FIX IT NOW......

I have put in for a call from apple for tommorow. We shall see...

Try a reset of all settings.

Choose General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

This seems to have worked for me. Apps are now downloading and are not stuck in a waiting cue.

This worked for me as well, after trying everything else suggested here except a full restore from factory settings. So give this a try before the last ditch effort of a restore.

I emailed Apple support after trying everything except for a restore. I'm worried if I do a restore that I will lose all the progress and levels in my games. Does anyone know the difference between a reset all settings and full restore? How do each impact my games, etc.. I understand that I would have my photos and contacts (I think) saved in a previous backup but how do the games work? I really wish Apple would just fix the bloody problem or at least address it so we know they are aware of it. But no, just a bunch of frustrated people trying to make their product work after a failed upgrade. Very frustrating.
