Apple TV buffering issues with iPhone 4s and iPad 2

Hi all,

I just got me an Apple TV 2nd gen (yeah, I know, ordered 2 days before the presentation of the new one). So far so good, the device is up and running, connects just fine to my Airport Express router and all.

However, if I try to stream a video from my iPad (2) or my iPhone (4S), the results are quite horriffic. The iPad videos would buffer for a very long time before they start and then quite fast after that the buffering problems restart. It's pretty impossible to play a video fluently of more than 20 seconds. If I'd try from my iPhone it's even worse with videos being 1080p, the thing just never plays, eventually the preloading process stops on the mirroring mode is cut.

I have to point out, all my devices are in the same room (WiFi) so the signal is the best it can be.

This is honestly quite surprising AND disappointing to be honest, given I bought the device mostly for that, so I can stream videos from my phone and pad.

Tell me, am I doing something wrong, or the video streaming over those devices is just a marketing gimmick with nothing real behind it?

Would it matter if I change my router from Airport express to Airport extreme?

Thanks!

Hi everybody!

Same issue here, I have an 3rd Generation AppleTV, MacBook Pro unibody, iPad 2 and (2) iPhone 4S with the same behavior.

The only videos I can play are no longer than 15 seconds. I made all the possible troubleshooting regarding WIFI conection without luck.

But when I sync a lower resolution video to my iPad 2 I can play it without problem, but still having a sync problem between the appleTV remote and the control from the iPad, if a hit play at the iPad 2 the movie doesnt start, but if a hit FF on the remote and then Play on the remote, I can see the movie (just F----D up) I cant support this 🙂

Any news? Any suggestions? I buy all the combo just to live play my recorded movies from iPhone and iPad and I cant use it

Thanks a lot!

Same problems here. 4S and new Apple TV bought on Friday in our local Apple store.

Everything was setup in minutes, and working fine the first evening. Airplay streaming and mirroring worked instantly, almost without delay. I could even stream from my NAS via my iPhone 4S using the Media Connect app. I thought, wow, what an amazing product the Apple TV with Airplay is.

Then I decided to run the "Update Software" from the Apple TV settings. Since then - it could be coincidence, who knows, but to me it seems directly related - I can't stream anything, even standard defition, in a reasonable way. Videos - the same that worked instantly before - take minutes to load (minutes, not seconds) and play - if they do it all. If I hit pause, it takes minutes until the video pauses. The Apple remote app becomes sluggish and often disconnects.

Netflix and Youtube were working fine before, have become very slow as well.

It's not a network or wireless issue - I haven't changed anything in my network configuration, and all other devices iPhone, PS3, Samsung TV, Computer, iPad still run perfectly fine at high speed using wireless, including HD streaming.

This seems to be an Apple TV issue that needs to be resolved. If not, I'll return the unit. Too bad.

I'm having the same problem like all of you. I can stream all of my videos via airplay from my iTunes on my MacBook Pro to my Apple TV with no problem. however, when I stream videos from my iPhone 4S the airplay my Apple TV, it's extremely sluggish. It will take many many minutes sometimes more than 15 minutes just to play a three minute video.
