Having same issue!! - Anyone found a fix yet???

It started yesterday. I have Users with iPhones 3S, 4 & 4S. All connecting to Exchange 2003. All had been working fine until yesterday. Not all of my users are experiencing the problem and I have checked the ones who are working but find no differences between the working and not working ones.

One yesterday was fixed after simple power reset. I have two this morning that say they can send messages but cannot receive messages. Message "CANNOT GET MAIL - The connection to the server failed" when attempt to sync the Inbox. Funny though I can see (and sync) the SENT and TRASH folders just fine. It is only the INBOX. I have tried "ALL" of the suggestions mentioned here and none have worked. No difference between 3G and WiFi.

To me this is an APPLE issue with iPhone. And yes all just had the recent IOS update to 5.1 in the last week or two so it could be that. I have also configured the same failing email accounts on a DROID and all work fine. Again leading me to believe this is an APPLE issue. S... will hit the fan if this problem turns up on the CEOs iPhone and I dont have a fix.

YO APPLE, do you hear me. Are you reading all these threads!

From what I can tell the problem, (for us anyway), is that our wireless network hands out IP addresses from a different range than our internal network. Our wireless network is segregated from our internal network. If I turn wireless off it works fine, turn it back on and email is dead. Email via any other wifi network works fine. I have only received reports from 4S users at this point.

I also found this page which helped:

I work for a law firm in southern ca. After upgrading to the latest build all of our iphones stopped displaying any new emails. What was strange is that I could still send out email?? Our computer guys worked on our 2003 Small Business Server for weeks without any success. While they were working I was reading all sorts of things to try. Man, I was scared. Most of the tips were too good to be true. There were some I thought would fix our issue. It ended up that there was some sort of meta data corruption on our SBS 2003 Server. We found this computer gurus who specialize on microsoft exchange and iphone issues. I was floored to see how quick they had our issue fix. Stress is over! Here is their site: iphone exchange setup experts . Do what I should have done weeks earlier.. call them.

In response to my post I discovered a simple solution to my problem. I simply defaulted each phone to factory and rebuilt the config individually. NOTE: I did not restore from backup. I had used this method several months back to address a premature battery drain issue in which there was a runaway (corrupt) app (I suspect an email sync gone bad) was draining the battery. Anyway tried this method as last ditch and phone & Exchange were back to normal. Cant say this works for everyone here but hey gotta try anything when Apple is not there for you.

I used your solution, but it I had to do something a little different. After following your steps, it didn't resolve. So, all I did was go in and turn off 3G and Cellular Data. Then, I deleted the Exchange account. Then, while only using Wi-Fi, I re-added the Exchange account & sent/received test emails. Then I turned on Cellular Data & sent/received test emails. Finally, I turned on 3G and was able to send/recieve test emails. All has been working fine all day so far. This was for a client's iPhone 4.

Hi,

Thanks for posting this problem.

I am too facing similar situation. As soon as I turn my exchange on, my iPhone/iPad get resetted(for some reasons, iCloud had 6 month old backup)

Now, I lost my valuable data too.

I have already spent 6 hours trying to get everything back.

I wondered, does apple releases iOS updates without even properly testing them. Shame on you apple's quality test department and release managments, you should fire yourself.

I am having a similar problem as some of these posts mention, but I will spell out my scenario in more detail:

My boss has an iPad3, I have an original. Both are only connected via wifi within our work network, no cellular connection. We are still running SBS2003

My initial attempts to connect with settings similar to droid phones were unsuccessful, giving an "unable to verify" type error. One thing I noticed was that the error was almost immediate, not with the typical delay you might expect from a authentication attempt type connection.

After reading this thread I noticed that others were able to connect via cellular or Wifi outside the local network.

So the next thing I tried, which worked at least on my iPad, was to change the server address to our internal server IP address (10.x.x.x) The iPad hooked right up and sync'd up.

I suspect that when I go home I will change the server to our external IP address and it will then connect correctly "outside" our work network. A cellular connection would automatically be outside our network, obviously.

If this is true, then it brings up the issue of not wanting to have to change server addresses based on our current location (at work or not).

So... How to get the iPad(s) to connect via the internet even though the destination server is already on this side of our firewall? Or can it gracefully realize it's "location" and connect accordingly? Maybe via a second copy of the exchange account set for the internal vs. external IP...?

its the password for your email account, if you changed that recently it wont work until you go into the settings and resubmit it.

No, this has nothing to do with passwords. This is a definite wifi/address issue as I see it on both iPads and iPhones in my organization. I have resorted to disabling wifi alltogether while I'm in the office. This doesn't help the execs however, that have wifi only iPads.

Why hasn't Apple come out with a fix or explanation? Has anyone called support about this issue?
