Yahoo IMAP server - Rejected Password

Why do i keep getting the following on my imac 27" when it does not happen on my ipad or macbook air?

"The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user "

Getting very frustrated with it. I have tried removing the account and repacing and also changing the password. It is not the password entry that is the problem. Any solutions? All software up to date.

I haven't been following this too closely after I have stopped having issues and not sure if what I about to mention has already been tried or mentioned. I believe that after I removed the @yahoo.com from my user name under the account settings, I have almost never been asked for a password again. With that said, maybe once a week I will be asked for it. That could be just a timing issue or a load on yahoo's servers or maybe a security enhancement. Another thing I verified is that if I had logged in at the website, I do NOT have "Keep Me Logged In" checked.

I tried everything to no avail. Decided to contact Apple. Talked to a really nice lady who told me to try logging into ATT mail directly from browser. Then while leaving the page up, open mail application. It worked. I'd actually erased the profile from mail app, so I did have to add it in again and this time, not a single problem!

The lady told me that they have no idea why this works! Hahaha. Whatever, I'll take it!

My situation:

Running Mac Mini with Mountain Lion.

2 Yahoo IMAP accounts, one of which works fine and the other of which started doing the password BS 4 days ago on my Mac Mail.

2 iOS devices, both of which are set up to receive Yahoo mail but neither of which had any problems accessing.

My solution (that has worked for the last 5 minutes or so):

Signed into Yahoo web account and changed password

Switched all iOS devices to "Manual" downloading of mail for the problem account

Started Mac Mail

Deleted Yahoo account in Mac Mail that was giving me problems

Created new account with new password

Voila, mail seems to be running fine again.

So I don't know whom to thank as I pretty much used a hodge-podge of solutions, but this thread was useful, so thank you all who posted your solutions in here.

It appears there is no solution that won't cost us $20. yahoo has formated their internet server to deny your pc/mac mail applications the right to access your emails "offline" with POP services unless of course you buy into their mail plus program or have a smart phone. So pay $20 dollars to view your email at your pc without opening it in your browser or just pull your phone out and do it for free. http://mailplus.mail.yahoo.com/

I've had the same problem with my yahoo accoutn getting locked out when I use IMAP on multiple devices. I cotnact yahoo support 4 times about this issue and finally they say they have found the fault on "their" servers. this is part of the response from them.

"We're pleased to inform you that we've completed our investigation and were able to identify a synchronization problem between your account and our server's database that could explain the sign-in error you were experiencing. The fix we've applied may take up to 24 hours to complete, but after that your Yahoo! account should work properly."

I don't know if this is the same issue for everyone but it seems they have fixed the issue. I will confirm this once I have re-enabled my account on all my devices that use IMAP.

Keep chasing Yahoo support they are trying to fix the issue it seems and I hope they have fixed it and in the next 24 hours I will know...
