Yahoo IMAP server - Rejected Password

Why do i keep getting the following on my imac 27" when it does not happen on my ipad or macbook air?

"The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user "

Getting very frustrated with it. I have tried removing the account and repacing and also changing the password. It is not the password entry that is the problem. Any solutions? All software up to date.

Alert: Intermittent Password Issues

Several intermittent password-related issues that may impact customers, including the following:

  • Customer email passwords suddenly stop working
  • After password resets, customers are unable to access email
  • Customers are getting caught in password reset loops
  • The "Remember Me" password option for email isn't always working
  • Customers are unable to send/receive email with new mail settings

Yep, if it's a yahoo problem how come it still works fine on my iPad & iPhone. My solution to changing to gmail has worked a treat and I have now left all the spam mail that used to get through on my yahoo account behind. I know that not everyone can do this but this is all I have found that works. Even appointments at the genius bar after lugging my iMac to the store was a fix for a day.

I think it's a yahoo problem. The iOS devices use a different server (apple.pop.mail.yahoo.com), which is different than the yahoo IMAP server. I am also experiencing the password issue in Outlook as well. I think there is something wrong with that particular server. That, and that that server is officially only for use mobile devices (other than apple devices which have the server mentioned above) so it probably doesn't like desktop clients connecting to it.

I seem to have found a workaround for this, working at least for now!

MacBook Pro OS X 10.7.3

Under Account Information, incoming mail server is set to imap.mail.yahoo.com. I changed the username to username@btopenworld.com (same password).

For outgoing mail server: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

select default ports

unclicked SSL Layer

username: username@btinternet.com (same password as above)

Finally, under 'Advanced' tab of Accounts, selected Port 993 (not default 143) and ticked 'Use SSL'

Where did the Openworld.com account come from? I found it by directly accessing the Yahoo mail account on t'Internet and selecting options (top of page) -> mail options (middle left of screen) -> BT Yahoo Mail Extra Address

Hopefully the openworld server won't have the same glitch as the btinternet

Hi Mick571

Only about 24 hours so far. I've switched the mac off and on, put it in and out of sleep, etc and so far so good.

I'm no longer exactly sure where the openworld address came from - I think we changed package with BT at some point and we were 'upgraded', but it's lost in the mists of time.

Sorry, I can't answer your free account question.

I had previously tried the keychain deletion, but I couldn't get the account to work even for a short period. Like others have noted, my iphone and ipad work fine.
