Yahoo IMAP server - Rejected Password

Why do i keep getting the following on my imac 27" when it does not happen on my ipad or macbook air?

"The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user "

Getting very frustrated with it. I have tried removing the account and repacing and also changing the password. It is not the password entry that is the problem. Any solutions? All software up to date.

Fingers crossed it will continue to work - I've been able to connect for the past 36 hrs without the dreaded password rejected message - maybe Yahoo / Apple (whoever) are finally getting their act together.

Mick_571 - : My email address is btinternet.com, however if you look under options in the Yahoo browser I do see the option of mail too @btopenworld.com?? Not sure why, but it is there, and mine is a free account (I just pay BT for monthly broadband useage). Have a look and see if you have the option also.

DenisC_1979 - I will most certainly try your solution when!! mine goes down again (and I'm sure it will).

Thanks for

Hi Paula 1040, I too am on the free yahoo mail and just pay for Internet. Have not found the btopenworld.com part yet in options. Haven't found the options yet. I too am an @btinternet.com mail address.

Looking on Yahoo web page the other day, yahoo help then mail, I noticed a help which says something like " locked in the log in loop, where the password is rejected" - so they do know about it! Not that any of the suggested help works though.

Hope you still have success with it.

I have found a workaround that has been working for several days so far. I noticed that my password was accepted whenever I signed in through Yahoo's webmail interface just before using Mail.

Using that information, I set up the ad supported version of Sparrow and let it run in the background permanently. As long as I keep Sparrow running, Mail works splendidly with my Ymail account.

I, too have been having problems for last month. I normally use Outlook in Office for Mac. I have tried Mail and same problem there. Logging in via Yahoo from Safari means I can retrieve mail and send mail. This lasts until I need to use Safari again and then sending and receiving mail becomes means password rejection message again.

I am convinced it's a Yahoo/ISP problem.

I've gone quiet only because I'm now resigned to the apparent fate of having to first log into Yahoo mail in order to ensure that Mail or Outlook will retrieve or send e-mail. This is a major inconvenience. It seems pretty clear that it is a Yahoo problem that started around the end of March after working for years prior.

SNAP - I have had good connection since changing my password yesterday - but I know in a day or two I will have to do it again.

Not sure if this will help anyone, but it seems if you change from 'Classic' mail to the upgraded mail and change your password (to the same one), it will work for longer, than when you change it on the classic mail (could be coindidence?)

I hope this post continues, so we all see how everyone is doing with this problem.

Good luck everyone ;o)

Yes, hi everyone I have changed my yahoo account to gmail and I'm getting on fine with that. I access my yahoo account via my iPad and iPhone they are uninflected by the password problem.

I don't know what the answer is but changing my mail provider also allowed myself to drop an awfull amount of spam I used to have to sift through.

Good luck, and whom ever does solve this will be a god.
