Yahoo IMAP server - Rejected Password

Why do i keep getting the following on my imac 27" when it does not happen on my ipad or macbook air?

"The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password for user "

Getting very frustrated with it. I have tried removing the account and repacing and also changing the password. It is not the password entry that is the problem. Any solutions? All software up to date.

I too have the same problem, since 10.7.4. So much so that I deleted Yahoo mail, again, and re-installed it.

Only now I only have Yahoo 'pop' account not imap.

I cannot for the life of me get back my yahoo account as imap.Have tried altering stuff as on the you tube video's

but nothing can get back to imap.

Anybody HELP, or have yahoo taken off the imap option.

Wish I had never deleted the account now. !!

I have found a so far temporary solution!!!!!!! This issue was driving me crazy! Every 5 seconds "The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password" BLAH BLAH BLAH Anyways heres what I did....

1. Go to your Yahoo! account on safari and make sure you are logged out.
2. Delete the Yahoo! account on the mac "mail" open mail (pinned on bottom bar) click mail top left, go to preferences, highlight Yahoo! and click the minus below the accounts.
3. Open safari, click safari in top left, click preferences, security and UNCHECK Enable JavaScript, Close.
4. Sign in to yahoo on safari, it will ask you if you would like to sync yahoo with your mac, say yes, enter password.
5. Voila! Dont forget to reenable Java Script.

I am not sure this is a permanent fix but I have been going strong for a few hours now with no ""The Yahoo! IMAP server “imap.mail.yahoo.com” rejected the password"" Error knock on wood! Good luck!😁

Wish it had worked for me, @ step 4 - I was not asked to sync yahoo with mac, had to add account as usual.

Dont know if that was the problem.

Hey- ho !

Good luck with it anyway. Still on pop for me, cannot get imap back

The link below is very interesting if you all would like to read it - the entry by ctarmey. Do we all have mobile devises as well as the mac. Is this indeed whats causing the problem.

Having the exact same problem with Yahoo mail running Snow Leopard as well!

Snow Leopard is - Apple Mail v 4.5

Lion is Apple Mail v 5.2

The thing is - this was never a problem in Apple Mail some time ago.

Something has changed. Possibly on the Yahoo side?

It seems neither side has an official response to this which is also strange.

I have had the same problem with my AT&T Yahoo mail account using mail on my iPad 3. On three separate occasions I have had to delete the Yahoo account from my iPad because is would not get mail because of either a settings issue or password issue. Neither one was a problem but the iPad mail program made it a problem. It also would affect my iMac mail program after the the problem on my iPad because it would give me the same message and take the account offline. It had no effect on my Win PC during these problems.

I had to delete the Yahoo account on my iPad and add it as new to make it work again. This also made the account work again on my iMac without making any changes to the iMac mail program. I do not have iCloud turned on for mail and because I am running 10.4 on the iMac. I just ordered Snow Leopard so I can use the iCloud. I have two other AT&T Yahoo mail accounts on my iMac and have never had a problem with them, however I do not have them on my iPad mail program. The common thread in each of these 3 problems is that in each instance I connected to the internet on a unsecured server at the library, coffee house and nursing home. In each instance I was able to get mail and then send at least one outgoing mail. After the mail was sent mail attempted to get mail again and then the wheel started turning and finally a message of failed password appeared. Strangely I was able to send more mail but again the receiving mail would fail. The only way I could correct the issues was to delete the account from the iPad mail program and then add the same account with the same settings and everything worked again in both the iPad mail and the iMac mail. No changes to the iMac were necessary to make mail work the only thing I did was re-add the account on the iPad. I can not see where the settings are for the POP3 port and how mail handles it but I suspect that mail attempts to change settings when it sees you are on a unsecured network because SSL is required on the POP3 setting. Perhaps all the people with portable macs are creating the same problem because of the way that Mac Mail handles POP3 accounts. I also have a @live mail account ( same as hotmail ) and that has no problem with Mail on my iPad. I appears I will need to disable my Yahoo account when I sign onto a unsecured network to save the hassle of deleting and adding the same account.

I've had the same problem for some time. I followed the discussion HT1277 Issues with btinternet.com email

A very similar problem. I do have the mobile devices. When I returned from a few days away I turned off the mobile devices before turning the mac on. All worked fine but things went back to same rejection this morning.

I am now trying the keychain solution mentioned elsewhere but I'm not expecting it to work. The problem does seem to lie with BT/Yahoo.

I'm also having this problem. It's a pain in the butt because it also stops my computer from doing stuff (like scheduled restarts) while the popup is there. I basically have to keep Mail off and only turn it on when I want to check mail.

This is so dumb. Technically IMAP isn't supported by Yahoo except on mobile devices. What kind of garbage is that? It's 2012. Who would actually pay money for a POP account when they can get a free IMAP account somewhere else. If I hadn't been using this account for over a decade I'd seriously consider replacing it w/ a gmail.
