Expresscard/34 Compact Flash card reader?

Does anyone know if there is such a thing as a Expresscard/34 Compact Flash card reader?

Thanks

I doubt that one will be made but it is not impossible. Most of the ExpressCard 34 cards that I have seen use ports that end up sticking out of the laptop about half an inch. You could easily make an oversized end if you wanted the card to read Compact Flash.

If you ask me the main reason why you are unlikely to see the card you want is simply that Compact Flash is old and there might not be that large of a market for a Compact Flash Adapter.

You won't find many dSLRS that don't use CF cards. It's different in the consumer world, of course, but for pros a CF reader of some kind is an absolute essential.

Yes, all pro digital photographers use CF cards and most use FireWire card readers. The rest use USB2 card readers.
Many of us keep a $7 PCMCIA card adapter for emergency backup but rarely use it because it is sooooooo sloooooow. It also takes over your computer not allowing you to do much else during the downloading of photo/files.
Do that a few times and you see the need for upgrading to a new standard.
It would be nice to be able to just pop a card into the side of the laptop without plugging in a reader.

On the other hand - Sprint and Verizon do need to make an Express/Card 34 for internet access. I may be getting a MacBook Pro next month and not being able to connect to the internet from anywhere is my biggest fear, more so than the PhotoShop problem.

This man is a prophet, listen to him.

My USB2 card reader is easily 5 times faster than my PowerBook's PCMCIA slot reader. (15" Alum 1.5GHz) Maybe more... I'm not being scientific.

I don't miss it at all on my MacBook, because I'd be an idiot to use it as my primary method of importing 2GB of RAW photos at a time. My backup method? A second USB2 reader and knowledge that there's a second USB port as well.

Seriously, it's not worth using the internal slot, even if it does look "prettier."

Instead of using USB2, why not upgrade to eSATAII to CF connector... 1.5 to 2.5 Gbps...you'll only need a small plastic box to house the system, get a Lycom Esata ExpressCard/34 and the Addonics box. Any OEMs listening...You could make a killing if you got this pro setup in stores.

Awesome, Lee. That eSATA card is just what I needed. Now to get the eSATA to CF adapter and a nice eSATA hard drive and I'll be set. Thanks for doing the research.

BTW, I think that someone will soon make a CF Card - ExpressCard/34 adapter. True, it will stick out with an extended housing, but there is too big of a market for it not to build one. I spoke with the engineering dept at Duel Systems, and while they wouldn't commit to it, they are convinced that someone will start producing them soon.

Try using a Cardbus CF adapter. Far faster than a USB2 reader and possibly faster than FW too.

OK, so not much use on a MPB (No PC Card slot) but a CF-> Expressbus adapter of some sort should be fast.
