time machine sick to death of it!

I am absolutely sick and tired of trying to create a back up. I have been endevouring to do this all year.. and still I am no further forward. I have a Mybooklive attached to my Netgear. I have wiped it clean and started again. .. and STILL I dont seem to have a successful back up on there. It is driving me to distraction. I get the following errors...

this back up started on March 9 - it seems to stop and restart each time the amount to be backed up reduces... until it gets to say 2gb..

I tried at one stage to go in and edit as per another post on here using terminal.. got stuck at a particular stage and gave up as noone responded how to help.

I just want a back up. Western Digital have offered to replace my hard drive - but it will be a reconditioned one and not a new one..

I just hate it.

Ok - rebooted. No sign of it in my finder.

One strange thing which I have contactd WD about is that when I went onto my external Hard Drive - MyBookLive - the three back ups that were there yesterday, have gone and I now have a 'sharepoint' and no Backups. Finder can see them if I click on the HD - all three separate sparse bundles... but on the dashboard of the WD they have gone. This might be why it can't back up... watch this space.

Still get the same message....

It's the same thing mounted twice.

The names (at the top) are the same.

The Server address is the same.

Everything in the General section is the same.

The "-1" in the Name & Extension box is used when the same volume is mounted twice.

In this case, probably once for a backup to be performed, and again for you to look at the backups. The backup process runs as the "root" user (with permission to everything), but looking at the backups is done as whatever user you're logged-on to, with that user's permissions.

User uploaded file

Then why when I try and connect is there "TimeMachine" and Timemachinebackup to chose from. and it want's me to start again as per... had a few hard drive issues that Disk Utility sorted out and had to force quite so many times from various applications and my machine was backing up at the time.

How can get rid of one and keep the other. And will I have to 'start' again YET AGAIN!

Mar 6, 2013 9:20 AM in response to Pondini

disconnected. still both there. I think I am just going to bite the bullet and start again. Luckily I don't have anything on there that is only on there - We have three machines that back up to this - so I'll have to set them all up. Grrrr - it does my head in -

You may not have to do that.

That means the file system wasn't unmounted cleanly; ie, was disconnected while in process. It did not attempt any repairs.

Recovery backup declined by user.

Did you get a prompt about trying to repair the backups? That might be preferable to erasing and starting over.
