I have the same problem with the new itunes update. Restore did not help the problem. When I try to sync podcasts the problem happens everytime.
I'm having the same issue with my 6th Gen iPod Nano. I have iTunes 10.6 and the problem has still not been resolved. I'm on Windows 7.
I bought the iPod for my wife, and it was working fine until recently. She purchased a new album through iTunes, and then when I went to sync it to the iPod via USB, iTunes froze. I tried a Restore, which wiped the iPod completely, and now is syncing the entire iTunes library. If I attempt to select artists/albums to sync instead, it freezes iTunes 100% of the time, and I have to kill it via Task Manager.
This is incredibly frustrating. I hope Apple figures this issue out soon.
I also have windows 7, 6g Nano and iTunes 10.6.
Thanks for the fix.

Restoring looked to work for me as well...kind of a pain in the butt to re-syn everthing but at least it seems to be working now.
Restoring doesn't really work for me. It allows me to sync once, but if I change any settings -- like changing which podcasts to sync -- itunes crashes again. So if I want to change anything I have to restore and sync from scratch. What a pain!
I have been on the phone with Apple support for over an hour. They are aware of the problem and an iTunes update will be coming soon. In the meantime you will have to manage your Nano manually. These are the steps they gave me.....Restore your Nano. Once the screen comes up with your device name UNCHECK both boxes related to automatic sync - click next. When you get to the screen that has the picture of your device then you will have to manually drag playlists, songs, pictures, etc. to your device. Mine is sync'ing successfulling as I'm typing this. Hope this helps everyone "get by" until the iTunes update comes out with the fix.
This seems to be working for me, it's syncing now.
I'm having the same problem.
To DAlfstad,
Thank you very much for your post. Very informative.

This fix is still working fine.
Solution seemed to be to click the "enable disk use" on the summary page ... tho it does warn you to eject the ipod ech time. Seems to sync fine now ... only a few hours of figuring that out ... GRRRRR.
Restoring and having disk use be enabled worked for me too.
I am having the EXACT same problem using my iPod Nano 5G. Why oh why did I upgrade itunes? Anyways RESTORE did not work for me.
THANK YOU. This solved the problem.
