I'm having the same issue and I've tried syncing from two seperate computers.
I have a similar issue. I received a new iPod Nano 6G through Apple's iPod Nano Replacement Program. When I use iTunes (ver 10.6.0.40) to sync photos to it, iTunes locks up. Syncing music seems to work fine, only photos. When this happens, I see a running process in task manager (iTunes.exe *32) that is consuming about 50% CPU. Since iTunes is now frozen, I have to kill the running process using task manager. I have tried this several times, varying the number of picturesto sync at one time, all with the same results. My OS is MS Windows 7 64-bit. I have rebooted the machine several times. Any help appreciated
I'll add that I've also opened a case with Apple, and received a reply from the support person that they were unable to assist since in their role as "advisor", they only handled billing, downloading, customer accounts, and items available on the iTunes store. This is how I ended up here. Here's the rest of the suggestions:

same problem for me - never happened until I upgraded to latest version of itunes
Greeting all. I found a fix that worked for me. I connected my iPod, went to the "Summary Page" and selected "Restore". Even though it erased (basically reformatted) and restored my iPod to its factory settings, everything seems to be working fine now. The downside was that I had to re-sync all my music and photos back on. Podcast are working just fine too now. Good luck.
P.S. - All these problems happened after the last iTunes update a couple days ago.
Yep, same here. Same issues happening to me after latest iTunes update.
Same thing happening to me. Very frustrating. I even tried the "restore" function but when I did this it automatically filled the Nano with music I didn't want on it. then when I tried to remove the unwanted stuff, there we go, iTunes freezes again. Running around in circles here...
I concur. Restore did the trick.
Works like a champ now.
Restore is NOT working for me.
I have 2 different Nano 6s. I already hosed one's content by using Restore, I'm not going to mess the other one up. BOTH freeze if I make ANY changes and then sync. This is killing me. My Nano 6 worked great for a year. That's why I bought a second one. Now neither work.
So far, everything is still working fine for me after I did the "restore". However, I'm keeping my fingers crossed seeing as how some of you all are still suffering from this problem. From what I can tell, it sure sounds as if this was all caused by the last iTunes update. With that being said, I hope Apple is taking not of these posts and will have a fix for the problem. I wish you all luck and will keep you all posted if anything changes for the worst.
I restored and am back in action. If it does not work for you make sure that itunes downloads the software. I restored once and it did not take any time and itunes did not download anything. It wasn't after I re-restored that I realized that itunes did not download the previous time. Second time was a charm.
Restore did not fix the problem for me. After I updated itunes to 10.6, I could no longer sync podcasts to my iPod nano without itunes freezing up. I tried restoring my nano several times but that didn't work. What I discovered to fix the problem is by checking the "enable disk use" in the summary tab. After I applied that setting, I could sync podcasts without iTunes freezing up... hope this helps.
I am NOT going to revert to a previous version. Not how I roll.
I am astounded that it doesn't matter what library, what Mac, what NANO you use, that this bug still exists.
I'm scared to test the problem on my iPhone.
I don't need to test it on my Classic...I'm sure it exists there.
And what about the iPad 3? We all know that large transfers of content go much faster through USB than wi-fi. Do all the iPad 3 64 GB buyers want to have this bug kick them in the face tonight when they go to tweak their content collections after transferring them via USB cable?

I will try this. I seem to recall there is one adverse side-effect, but maybe the pain is less.
