Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

After I demonstrated the yellow tint issue, my Apple Store replaced my 64 GB Wi-FI+4G unit with an identical one. I should have checked the new one at the store, but I opened it at home and discovered the same problem. I took the second one back to the Apple Store and compared it to the demo models there. None of the demo units had the yellow tint. None of them were the 64 GB models either. So I exchanged my 64 GB model for a 32 GB model. The color balance on this one looks the same as on the demo units. No yellow tint. Did switching models solve the problem? Or, was it just luck? I'll never know, but I'm glad I went back to the store again.

Yes!! having the same yellowish - even greenish tint issue. Replaced it today at an Apple store and found the same issue. The couple of units I looked at on the floor had the same coloring. I started to wonder if it was me. Getting it back home I compared it to my iPad 2 and the iPad 2 looks much better comparing the exact same screen and icons on both side by side...crazy! and driving me nuts!

Do you know that apple may give you a free coupon that allows you to buy products from apple store at discounted rates if they find that you have been incovenienced terribly by a recent apple purchase? Even though I am not desperate for such freebies at my inconvenice and wasted time, I believe it is your right to ask the apple sales rep for a compensation.

This way, apple will further understand the tangible costs of having bad quality, where quality is all about doing it right the first time. Something like the definition of DRIFT.

Same issue here but not that extreme as on the posted pics.

First i didnt notice it. But running Safari in Landscape mode the keyboard was yellowish to white.

Then i checked more and more and could recognize its most yellowish on the top, about 1/3 up to 50% to the middle fading out.

Not getting better so far, running it day and night. Charging is OK. And no other issues so far.

What i dont like = no Apple comment on that so far. They know the problem, i talked to them, but no serious information given to me.

Are they expect us wating 14 days so that we cant bring it back anymore or what? Why no information from Apple..

Besides, i checked my friends new iPads, same issue. I checked in the store,. same issues there.

Its not just some. So far i didnt see any iPad3 without this issues.

Mine is going back to apple on saturday if i dont see any whitening progress.

Really dont wanna see some new iPad3 in some weeks with new screens without this issue and lowered prices while keeping mine.

I also took mine back. The store had about 20 of the 16GB 4G models on the display tables. We compared my screen to a few of those, and the yellow was obvious (I had a 64GB 4G model). They gave me a new one (also 64GB), and once I opened it, it too had the yellow tint. But I left the store because there were hundreds of people there and I was in a rush. Now, 4 days later, after heavy use, I would swear that my yellow tint is almost gone. I will have to compare it in-store again, in a few days, and I will let the thread know what happens. My theory is that either the 16GB and 32GB models don't have the yellow tint, or else the ones in-store had been used continually for 2 days by the hordes in the store, causing the yellow tint to go away (maybe glue drying or whatever). Anyway, the only way to know for sure will be to compare again.

Well, I had a 16gb wifi white. In portrait mode, The top half of the display was yellowish. Then, to make matters worse, the bottom half was pink, gray and yellow splotches. It is on its way back to Apple for a full refund.

I should also mention that It also ran unbelievably hot on the left hand side.

Yesterday, I checked out the demo iPads at Best Buy. Jaw-dropping gorgeous screens with none of these horrific problems. I will purchase another at Best Buy when they come back in stock.

I have a 32 gig model, and the exact same issues. Yellowish on the left hand side and bottom. And in addition, the bottom portion of the screen is darker than the top.

But while in Apple this past weekend, none of the display models had the problem.

Because I bought from Target, I get 45 days. I am going to hang onto it for a month, and if it doesn't get better, I'm going to bring it back. I would hate for them to fix this in a later production run, and be stuck with a first run that has the problem.

Has anyone noticed they the colors are off on a lot things? Here is an example: go to graigs list in your area, then note the color of the text. It should be a true blue. I noted the following:

iPad 3 - looks more purple to me.

iPad 2 - Looks blue

Iphone 4 - Looks blue

Iphone 4S - looks blue

Mac book Air 11" i7 - looks blue

Windows (don't yell at me) - looks blue

The ones that look blue all look the same shade of blue as well. Do the test and let me know.

Only the iPad3 color looks off at least this one. Anyone else?

Yes, everything you detailed is exactly what I'm experiencing. The blues look purplish on the New iPad. And the yellows look greyish. Overall, there is a washed-out look to the screen colors. To even come close to the vivid saturation of the iPad 2 even at half-brightness, one has to goose the New iPad to full brightness, but it is still not as color-correct and brilliant as the iPad 2. Anyone can see this by going to an Apple store and comparing an iPad 2 to a New iPad. Too bad I believed the hype about the New iPad screen and, therefore, sold my iPad 2 before the new one arrived!!

Mar 21, 2012 8:07 AM in response to It_caveman

@ It_caveman yes the "blue" links do look more purple on the iPad 3. I checked all the new iPads at the Apple store and they all had the same colour rendition ie links were more purple than on the iPad 2.

However refer to page 7 of this thread where Ctein states that the new iPad renders the colours more accurately than the other iDevices. For easy reference, I am taking the liberty of reproducing Ctein's post below:

Dear Mangoes,

Check out my post on page 2 of this discussion.

I can't speak to whether or not you have a defective screen, but "blues" should go more "purple" on the new iPad. The iPad2 inaccurately rendered blues as too light and shifted towards cyan. The new iPad renders them very close to correct (as compared with a properly calibrated D65 studio monitor). I see no big difference in the rendering of pure yellows between the iPad2 and the new iPad, but the slightly warmer (and more accurate) color temperature of the new iPad could make them look subjectively different (i.e., compared to the "white," yellows would look slightly warmer on the iPad2).

If you don't like this color rendition, then return the new iPad, but don't expect Apple to "correct" it. It's actually much more correct now than it was in the iPad2.

Hope this helps....

I think there are definitely issues with some of the new iPad displays. Mine was yellowish with some darker almost greenish areas along the bottom and left side. Yellows looked very washed out. I just got an express replacement from Apple and the display has no issues at all. Clearly there are differences in the displays. If you're not happy I highly recommend getting a replacement.
