Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

I don't know if those pictures can help... but in my case it look like this! More yellow on my iMac and more red on my New iPad. For those with a "perfect" screen... is it the same for you? If anyone with a "perfect" screen read this, can you post a picture please. Thanks!

Yours is more like my brother's ... a bit on the red side. I'll take that over my yellow one, as it doesn't "muddy" up the grays as much.

The replacement unit I got leans slightly red. To my eyes it's hardly noticable and a definite impovement over the 'yellow' one I sent back. The whites and greys look much more 'normal' to me.

I had a slight yellowish tint when I first fired up my new iPad. Unless my eyes have adjusted to it, after a couple of days its nearly gone.

It seems like some have it worse than others.

apixel - that's how my ipad looked when I first received it. And I didn't like it.

I'm typing this reply on my MacBook. I just turned on my new iPad and my iPad 2 for comparisons with the photo you've provided.

What I see on my iPads is the same as I see on my MacBook. They are each a little different, yet more than similar enough for me to accept any of them.

What I would like to know, apixel, is when the photograph you are showing us was made. And then I'd like to know if you made a second one, if more than a few days have gone by and/or if you've had your new iPad display turned on for at least some hours. Because I'd like to see if any change has occured in your new iPad, as it has in mine.

I'd also like to know if the brightness values on each display you've shown us are as close as possible.

In fact, no two displays are ever going to be exactly the same. The example you've shown us seems to be extreme, unacceptable, just as I thought my new iPad's display was, when I first saw it, unacceptable.

So if you can show us photos with some significant time between them, that would be illuminating, I think.

Alessis - I have to say I don't see that much difference between diplays you've shown us, and I don't see much difference on my MacBook, my iPad 2, or my iPad 3..

Compared to the iMac, the new iPad does seem to have brighter brights and darker darks. While the human eye can see detail from one end of the scale to the other, a camera is less able to properly expose for high dynamic range. So it's not easy to account for the difference in brightness.

The comparisons of white to black, the color chart, the figures all look close enough to me, again on my MacBook, my iPad 2 and my new iPad to be acceptable.

Most people on this thread are complaining about a yellow tint on their iPads. And yet you think your iPad has a red tint compared to your iMac.

From what I see of your examples, there's nothing "imperfect" about your ipad.

I've had the new iPad since last Wednesday. I could immediately tell it was off when I got it. If I don't use it in conjunction with anything else, my eyes get used to it ( and I was hopeful it was correcting itself ), but it hasn't.

The picture was from today.

Llike you, I don't expect any two screens to be perfect. ( Even my calibrated monitors don't 100% match each other - because they are not super expensive ones ) But, I expect close enough. I've had every iPad and every iPhone and this is the first time that a hue difference has been so strong. I hope the apple genius feels the same way when I take it back.

I WILL repeat the same photo on Wednesday morning, and I'll try to play some infinityBlade to get it to heat up as well. We'll see if anything has changed.

Well not, this is interesting! I've had my iPad since last Tue. It has a very warm colour temp at first compared to my iPad 2 and the Apple Store iPad 3's. Then it slowly started cooling down to a whiter balance until for the last couple of days, most of the screen has been a cooler white than my iPad 2, except for a warm band down the left side in portrait mode. But now when I checked, the 1/3 of the left side of the screen is actually whiter than the rest of the screen!! I don't know if this is due to looking at it in artificial light (it's night here) or what. But the difference is there with both Tungsten room light and flourescent light. The colour tem diff is very slight, maybe only 1/4 f-stop in photographic terms. I will check again in the morning and report here... But it des seem that the display is still settling down...

Color temperture is different than brightness (difference in f/stop).

apixel - you have a problem, at least compared to me. Let us know Wednesday what you see with the new photo. I'm sure, if the problem hasn't resolved itself, you'll be able to return your iPad and find one that works for you.

You have a short window (I believe it to be about 15 minutes but I haven't looked it up lately) to edit a post before the 'Edit' button disappears.

@ iDave You are of course right, f-Stop is a term for brightness. Maybe it was not the right term to use, but perhaps it gives an idea do what I'm trying to describe.

@ crh24 I looked for an Edit button immediately after uploading the post but could not find one. I'm writing from my iPad, I don't know if the option would be there if I was writing from the Mac... Will have to check.

I get your meaning, firoze, I didn't mean it as a put-down. I'm a sometime professional photographer (and apparently a pretentious one, too).
