Is anybody else getting a yellowish hue on their new iPad?

Hi guys, i need your help. I just got my new iPad today 4G+Wifi 64GB (white) and i am getting a distinct yellowish hue on my retina display. On my iPad 2 it is clearly much nicer and brighter in terms of the resolution. I was making the two comparisons by using safari and just opening up a blank white page with the brightness tuned to the max on both, i could tell the new iPad is yellowish and the iPad 2 is white and crisp. I mean is apple kidding me? Retina display with more pixels results in yellowish crappy resolution than my iPad 2? Im not sure if i should return this junk back to the apple store or if they do replace me will they give me back the same crappy display. I am stuck in a middle right now as my authorised reseller is currently out of stock and when i called apple support today they were telling me i would have to wait much longer if they have to ship it back to me. This is really ridiculous and i hope if anyone shares the same problem do drop me a reply.

Thanks.

My yellow on one side uneven lit iPad3 that hasn't gotten any better after more than a week of hard use is going back to the store this coming weekend. My wife wanted an iPad 3 after she saw the resolution on mine, so I went down to the Apple store and picked one up. I got one of the last 32 GB WiFi Black ones that they had. The screen on this one has absolutely no yellow. It is very evenly lit. It charges up nicely. It barely gets warm. And WiFi is ok. But it has two dead pixels! I really am having bad luck with the screens on these things. I've never seen a dead pixel on an iPad before.

more than 1 Week passed,. no improvements. I even went yesterday to the apple store in munich again.

As i wrote before all the devices had this issue, and still have.

BUT, i finally found out how to FIX the yellowish issue.

It was really incredible easy, and also very logical.

So here the steps to make it disappear:

1st, call Apple support.

Talked with them for about 15 minutes. Ask for the yellowish issue.

They will help you and tell you what you can do.

2nd, turn off your iPad.

3rd, before you go on. Turn it on again to check if the yellowish is still there, then turn it off again.

...

...

...

4th. Put it into the box, pack it and send it back to ****.

5th. Be happy about your returned money,

And i swear to GOD, the yellowish is gone completely!!, I cannot see it anymore.

HAPPY.

sry for trolling around,. might have been my last post on apple anyway i guess.

Cheers guys,. dont mess around with a crappy product. You wont be happy.

I can understand your disappointment Walnuss, some people have been very unlucky with these display issues. Yes it would be great if every sample of iPad was perfect. Not that I'm making excuses for Apple, but these are state-of-the-art screens after all and there are bound to be unacceptable samples. Of course for those unlucky ones who have paid good money and got bad screens this is no consolation... On the other hand, has anyone done any research to find out if tablets from other manufacturers also have these issues? I bet they do... It's just that, i guess, Apple users are more vocal and more critical.... I don't think Apple's quality control is worse than any other manufacturer; probably it is indeed better... On the other hand, their after sales service is second to none...

I have had no issues with my screen...maybe a slight yellow tinge when I first got it (on launch day) but since then the screen is nothing short of spectacular....mine was made by Foxconn on week 8 this year, wondering if there was a bad batch during a particular week etc...don't know if anyone has checked but you can go here:

Just enter your serial number and it will give you pertinent manufaturing information.

Sounds like you didn not have a good experience with your particular new iPad...to say its a "crappy product" is shot sighted and not correct, that's your opinion based on what you have experienced but the vast majority of the millions of people that already have this product are VERY HAPPY with it...this forum is a sounding board for ideas certainly but also for people with issues..it's like the hospital...if you judged the human race by what you see in the hospital you'd say everyone is sick...not the case..it's just a place to go when people are sick so they can get well....

Good luck to you Walnuss in finding a comparable product with the user experience and an iTunes like ecosystem...it doesn't exist..additionally...where else in the consumer electronics world can you take your product directly to the manufacturer to take care of your issue?? Nowhere...

As far as I know, Apple uses different display manufacturers. In the case of the new iPad, only Samsung and LG seem to deliver displays for Apple. One display has a cooler color temperature and the other one a warmer color temperature. You can actually see the difference only if you put both displays next to each other.

My two new iPads have a cool color temperature but one of my three iPad 2 has a warmer (yellowish) color temperature. You could try to exchange it for a different iPad but if you are unlucky, you could end up with the same display. It wouldn't bother me, both displays are excellent, just a different color temperature.

Not sure why there is a difference though, Apple should have certain guidelines for display specs but I suppose the color temperature for both displays, "cool" or "warm", is within the specs.

I have been running my 3rd iPad for 4 days, almost all day, with some movie loop playing.

Interestingly, when I first got the iPad last Friday and opened it at the store, the screen looked pretty good. After using it for a day or two, the right side of the screen (mostly to the lower side) has a distinct yellow tint which seems to be getting stronger. Strange. Also, I had incorrectly reported earlier that there was no backlight leak issue -- there was a slight backlight leak issue from all edges, but the leak was less than my first two iPads.

I returned the 3rd iPad. I have just seen a friend's 16GB Verizon iPad, and the screen is perfect. All of mine have been the 64GB Wifi only model, bought in-store. Could it be an issue with this particular model type?

I think at this moment I'll wait for a comparable Android tablet (I have previously gone through 4 Android tablets, but was not satisfied with the slow UI experience), or until this defect is verfiably fixed by Apple.

Also have yellowing in the top left corner that gradually fades diagonally to the right. The screen is clearly uneven. I've had this iPad (3rd one, but second one to leave the store) for over a week and have noticed no improvement whatsoever. On Monday I took the iPad in to my local Apple store and showed it to one of the floor salesmen. He noticed the problem right away and said that the colors look washed out. I didn't have everything to return it at that point so I returned to the store today. The guy in charge of scheduling genius appointments looked at my screen, said that he was experiencing the same problem on his iPad, and said that if I showed this to a genius the genius would laugh me out of the store because it was acceptable. I'm not making this up. Apple needs to say something about this yellow screen problem, and it also needs to work on its customer service. It's absolutely ridiculous that we cannot expect to get a near-perfect device after shelling out close to $800 for it!

Mar 27, 2012 10:56 PM in response to ADean810

Hey, ADean810 - did you or did you not have your appointment with an Apple genius? And what was the result if you did?

If you're unhappy, you can simply return your iPad. You don't need the genius to do this.

How about a photo? Let's see what the yellowing looks like, and if, like the Apple salesperson, your display looks washed out. I've seen pics of iPad displays that show an overall warm tint. I've yet to see one of partial discoloration and I would like to see that on someone's iPad.

Mar 27, 2012 11:18 PM in response to iDave

I did not have my appointment with the Apple genius because all of the slots were booked. I plan on going back in tomorrow. I don't want to give up on having an iPad. If I can't find one that has an even screen, then I'll just wait until Apple admits that there is a problem and works out out all the kinks. At that point I'll exchange it for a new one.

I should clarify that the salesperson I spoke to on Monday commented that the colors look washed out. I hadn't even noticed that. And frankly I don't have a problem with the colors. I actually think they look quite good. My problem is with the unevenness of the screen, with part of it being yellow and the other part being white.

I don't know how to add a picture here, but tell me how and I'll post one.

Mar 27, 2012 11:37 PM in response to ADean810

Nevermind, I figured it out. I was trying to post from my iPad. Here's the photo. When I view the picture on my computer, it looks fine. But believe me, when you look at it in person it's very noticeable. Both the salesperson and the genius appointment-maker noticed it (even though the latter basically told me to f-off). By the way, in the pic, it's the top right corner in landscape (top left corner in portrait).

The thing is though. Android tablets will probably suffer from screen issues, but are less well known about due to them not selling has many tablets has what Apple do. With the iPad been the best selling tablet, and therefore more people own them, the screen issues are more well known/heard about. I expect Apple's quality control to be greater than other tablet manufacturers.

I admit, its unacceptable to have a screen issue on a device costing as much as the new iPad, but the only options that are available if you are having a screen issue, are to either keep returning/replacing it until you get a good screen, or get a refund.

My first iPad 3 had a yellow patch on a portion of the screen, so I got a replacement sent out, I was lucky with the replacement has its got a perfect screen, no discoloration and its a uniformly white screen, no backlight leakage. I used some calibration images to check for any colaration/screen imperfections and there were none. I also tried looking at the iPad's screen with a black calibration image in a pitch black cupboard to see if there was any backlight leakage and again there was none.

I took a picture of my screen to show it on another forum, but the way the screen looks with the naked eye, to how it looks on the picture I'd took with the camera, did not do it justice. Too be honest, I think its a fruitless exercise to try and show any screen issues on the iPad, by taking a picture of its screen with a camera, the camera just can't see the picture the same has the naked eye in my opinion.
