iPad lock/unlock with smart cover doesn't work

Very interesting. Well, I guess I lucked out. I have 3 smart covers, all of which were purchased before October 2011, and they all work on the new iPad.

if yours isn't working due to polarity, though, couldn't you reverse the polarity of the magnets using another magnet, or steel, or something?

Yeah I've got same problem :-( if I turn the cover upside down it locks :-(

I phoned the Apple online store about my smart cover not working and they straight away agreed to replace it. Replacement arrived this morning and works fine, so if you have a new one and it doesn't work, just get it replaced.

I am very happy that Apple are replacing smart covers (I've read on another forum that Targus are doing the same), but in my case I have a leather cover from PielFrama (in Spain) and I dont think they will exchange mine, specialy since it's not their fault if the new iPad have different polarisation.

Of course it is their fault. PielFrama, and others, make accessories to fit the iPad, not the other way around.

I dont think so, my leather case was bought for my iPad 2 and worked fine with it. Apple changed

polarity for the new iPad causing havoc to many users with previous covers that should also worked with

the new iPad. Apple are not replacing smart covers for nothing.

I have just bought a new Targus click in case for my iPad it states on the cover that it is for the iPad 3, but the lock unlock feature does not work. From what I have read Apple have moved the battery slightly on the new iPads and some of the cases don't work. I emailed Targus and got a very prompt reply telling me they would replace my case in about 8 weeks with a new one and I could keep the old one. Seems they jumped the gun somewhat, but really pleased with the customer service and it is a great case.

My 2nd gen iPad Mini used to lock when I closed the cover. Now it only turns off the display but doesn't lock. Is this the same issue you're having or does yours not even turn off the display?

Hi. In iOS 10, the Lock/Unlock setting has moved to Settimgs > Display & Brightness. It may have been unset by the update. Note that it only appears when a cover is attached, open obviously.
