iPad 3 + 4G - Rogers - No Service

I received my new iPad 3 64GB + 4G today however, after inserting the Rogers SIM card I received with it - I just get a NO SERVICE notification. Is there some sort of delay before the iPad will have access to the Rogers Network?

I have no option to setup a Rogers account because of this.

Any solutions or recommendations.

Please advise - Thanks

Unfortunately, looking at Rogers iPad data plan page, it looks like dursino is right - cant activate from device on iPad 3 and seems like you need to enroll to their monthly plans or flex plans. Rogers still says you can activate iPad 2 on device but for LTE (new ipad) this can not be done.

I really like better the "no plan" approach we had on iPad 2. Will now look at their data sharing plan since I don't use enough my iPad on the road to justify having a monthly plan on it. And for what it is worth, bell and telus appear to have gone the same route.

I hope I am mistaken.

If you go to this page:

http://www.rogers.com/web/content/ipad-dataplans?cm_mmc=Redirects-_-Consumer_Wir eless_Eng-_-iPad_PrelaunchDataPlans_0510-_-iPad#ActivateYouriPad

and click on the "Activate your iPad plan" link, a popup will tell you how to activate your 4G LTE iPad yourself on-device. Except it isn't working... I've run some experiments and it may be that the activation servers are overloaded.. getting some error messages. Will try again when they may be less busy.

You're right... it says 4G network, not device.

The beauty of the iPad 2 plan was that you could activate it on-device only when you need it, like on trips.

I hope the LTE plans can be turned off and on while on the road.

And I hope the LTE plans don't lock the device to Rogers so I can still use my AT&T SIM card while in the U.S.

I agree with Trepex and Tim. The fact that we can no longer activate on-device and on-demand with Rogers is unacceptable and, yes, this is total garbage. For what it's worth, I just picked up a Telus SIM (which I paid $10 for) and it's the same deal. Then again, that's really no surprise as Telus didn't previously offer on-device activation. Frankly, I'm considering sending back the unit to Apple, downgrading to a Wi-Fi only model and use my iPhone as a hotspot when I'm on the road.

Ok so just to confirm, i was getting a "No Service" with both my Rogers and Bell sim on the New IPad. I just called Bell to activate data sharing on my iphone and New Ipad - had to give them my ICCID and after rebooting my device, I was able to see the Bell network (as opposed to the "No Service).

Only reason i am keeping the LTE device and not switching back to Wifi is that i am hoping when i travel to the stats i will still be able to use my AT&T card as i was doing with iPad 2. If not the case, then i agree that hotspotting from my iphone would be a good alternative.

At least the Bell customer service rep was friendly and efficient.

Jacou, if you have your 3G AT&T SIM handy, try slapping it in the device. Did that with mine and clicking Settings > Cellular Data > View Account returns this: This device requires an AT&T 4G LTE compatible SIM card. Now, check out AT&T's LTE iPad plans and read the fine print: http://bit.ly/yIx0KR

"Plans are monthly..." and "Offer not available for on-tablet activation".

Looks like pay-as-you-go is no longer an option with most carriers...

I caved and went to a Rogers store and got my Sim card activated there. I got a deal that took $50 off and I went to a graduated plan that they offer here for LTE. Once they put my sim into the system, magic happened and rogers lte showed up. Real pain in the butt to get this done but at least it works on the network.

Looks like it's the same for a lot of bell people as well. For what you say Nicolas it looks like this pay-as-you-go option isn't available anymore but maybe become available later.

cheers

Ok, after a half hour on the phone with Rogers Sales customer service - my LTE Sim is activated. They have no idea even about the limited time plans on the website - haven't even been loaded into their system. So, make sure they make notes on your account when you get set up. 2 months unlimited data and then months 3-6 at double the data plan you sign up for. Offer expires April 1st (how appropriate - if they don't honor the details setup today)

Unfortunately, the 4G service coverage doesn't cover my area east of Toronto - so, I'll have to confirm on Monday when I'm back in Toronto.

Best of luck everyone - what a step back in what had been a more user friendly online process.

i had the same problem. Went to the nearby Rogers boutique. Signed for 1y (flex plan). first 2 months with unlimited data (to get you hooked to the greatness of LTE 🙂 ) followed by 4 months of double data plan. After a few minutes, new ipad 4G worked like a charm.

Like most of us, i was expecting in-device activation just like on my first ipad.
