App downloading stuck on "waiting"

Every time I try to download an app from my iPad, it remans stuck on "waiting". This does not happen on my iPhone (I share the same iTunes account).

I tried resetting network settings, rebooting the iPad, but the issue is still there. I have no pending downloads on iTunes and every other topic I read on this forum didn't help at all.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks.

I recently had this problem with both my iPad 2 and iPhone 4 running iOS 5.1. No amount of logging in/out, deleting apps, or restarting the iDevices would get the apps to complete installation. My final solution was to hook up the iDevices to iTunes, and use iTunes to install the apps. Once that worked, I was able again to install/reinstall apps directly from the iDevices.

I have encountered this issue today with my iPhone 4S. I try to download new apps and they don't install. I see two updates available for PayPall and Netflix apps and when I try to update them individually or using the Update All button, the 2 apps remain in "waiting" mode. I've linked my Apple ID with a new payment method (Visa) thinking that this could be the issue but that didn't help. I've closed the apps, rebooted the iPhone, synced it with iTunes and still nothing.

Yes, let us know. I was on the phone with support for 4 hours Monday night. All apps get stuck in "waiting" on all of my family's Apple devices (2 iPhones, an iPad, and 2 iPods). I have tried everything before I talked to support and while I was on the phone with support - rebooted several times, logged in and out of the store several times, tried a different network/WIFI, tried 3G, etc. Nothing works. I have had the iPad for 2 years, the iPods for several years, and the iPhones for 3 months and never had a problem until Thursday night, March 15. Ever since then I cannot download any apps to the devices BUT I can download to the PC. After 4 hours with support all they could say was "good thing you can still download to your computer."

ok folks - here is what I found out: Yes, try all of the above which I had done. A hard reboot is where you hold the home button down and the top botton on the Ipad and hold it for several seconds until the apple shows up. Try that first. It didn't work for me, so finally, Tech support said to go to General >Reset (at the very botton) and reset it. This takes awhile, but it finally worked. All my apps are updating and I'm able to load new apps. Good luck to all of you.

I had the exact same problem and seem to have it solved. Here's what I did. Plugged my new Ipad (third generation) into the computer to use iTunes. In iTunes, and clicked on Restore. I was asked if I wanted to back up first and I did so. Allowing the process to complete first brought me to the welcome screen that was there when the iPad was first delivered. I noticed the arrows still spinning and so did not do anything on the screen. After a while, I was as pleased to see that the backup was restoring all of my apps and data. Once completed (it took quite a while) I tried downloading a new app just to see what woud happen. It downloaded the new app with no problems. So far, everything is working properly.

Hoorge, yes rest all settings. It will not delete ant data. I do have turnoff sounds from some apps that I had originally, but that, to me, was no big deal. Reset takes a few minutes, but when you see the screen go black, hit the home button and you'll see the slide bar with all different languages going through and then just slide it over and it will walk you through on set up just like a new iPad.

Do you have any apps downloading that you dont see...perhaps in a folder?

If not, try going into the app store to the app you are trying to download. If it says installed next to the app, hit your home button and your app should begin to download.

If not, try to delete the app by holding it down and tapping the 'x' next to it. From there, simply redownload it from the app store and your back in buisness.

Still having trouble...?

Try downloading a similar app or go onto your main computer.

  1. go into the iTunes Store
  2. Search the app you are looking for in the search bar
  3. Download it onto your main computer and sync it to your device.

(You may have to cancel the download on your device first before you sync it to your main computer.)

If you are still having difficulties try this

go into iTunes>more>Downloads

look for waiting dowloads there

Delete the waiting download and redoenload the app from the App Store either on your iPad or your main computer

For Future Reference: Usually if you have one download having difficulties, it messes up your entire system which makes using your device that much harder. I recomend the last option I suggested. It worked for me and this other user by the name of britewhitelight
