iPad 3 slow charging with 10W charger?

Got my new iPad yeserday. Compared with my iPad 1 the charging via the 10W charger is really slow. Went to bed with power at 20%, and over 6 hours it only reached 85% charge. Normal? Others seeing the same thing? I suppose the battery capacity increase would be expected to require a longer charge...but really this slow?

Not to be a downer, but with the heat issues people (myself included) have experienced I doubt they could use a faster charger. I may be wrong, it could be unrelated, but my ancient Electrical Eng sense is tingling.

I think I may need to buy a couple new chargers, one for work and one for the bedroom where I read a lot. That way the spans between places with a charger are less, if I remember to plug it in...

My new ipad took 5 hours 15 min to fully charge it from 0 to 100 % ! But plzz note it was locked with no use while charging it and it was in airplane mode so my suggestion would be to charge every night before bed and make sure it's locked. Plus if u wanna even faster charge put airplan mode on ! It works for me ! 0 to 100 % in 5 hours

I ran mine down to 10% then powered it down completely while on the included charger and cable. It has been 11 hours and I am at 93%. This charger is just not powerful enough. I was playing Air Supremacy last night with it plugged into a 10w charger. It was loosing power not charging. I had to stop playing games to get it to start charging.

Apple we have a serious problem here. I might be returning my iPad. I can't use it this way. 12 hours charging to get 8 or 9 hours of LITE use or a few hours of game playing. Even discharges when playing games with charger plugged in. OUCH!

It sounds like something is up with your iPad, charger, cable or something.. It takes me around 5.5 hours to charge fully when sleeping. And when playing a simple puzzle game I was still gaining charge (very slowly) I do have bluetooth turned off, but otherwise everything is pretty much on (4G on but wifi in use, full screen brightness, etc..)

I agreed with Arfdog. My new iPad was charge with my iPad2 charger the first time. I was really stunned to see 12 hours+ from 0 to 100%.

I fully drained it today and charge this morning with the charger that comes with new iPad, it's 60% now with 3 hours+ of charge. So I expect to reach 100% in 7 hours time. It's not that bad.

I'm not sure what's the difference between the USB cable, will take a look when it has finished charging.

Just adding my experience also... Was at 8%, after 4 hours I was at 60%. Seems like forever, but this is just what I'm experiencing.

The new iPad battery sports 70% more capacity than the iPad 2, and the iPad 2 battery takes about 4 hours to recharge completely.

What recharge time did you expect for your new iPad given the fact that you're using the identical battery charger as for the iPad 2?

I don't think it makes a lot of sense for people to say what did you expect that's how the math works out. What people expected was a device that worked similar to past ones and this one does not in one particular way. I know I didn't check out the charger rating when I ordered one.

I'm OK with it, I've changed my charging habits and it seems to be working out, but I'm also not surprised when people are disappointed.

Good to know about the new charging cable supposedly speeding things up... I will try that. Otherwise, this whole issue about the battery life DECREASING while being charged is definitely poor. I just bought my new iPad, and must use it heavily at work. If I have to spend more time charging than using the thing to equal the %battery used, that is a problem.
