The New iPad will not sync all photo's

I picked up the new iPad yesterday at the Apple store and am having a problem getting it to sync all of my photo library.

Im using iTunes on Windows 7 to sync the "My Pictures" folder to the iPad.

It will sync some but not all of the folders in the "My Pictures". I have deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder, that did not help.

I have 2 iPhones and 2 older iPad 1's which sync the photo's just fine.

iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + 4G (VZ), iOS 5.1

Dear All

I have this problem too

and I think iPad3 is the problem

I also have an iPad2 and updated to the latest version of system and synced with the same computer

using the same iTunes software on Windows 7 and synced with the same picture folders in my computer

all 6,000 pictures are successfully synced to iPad2

but only 1000+ go to iPad3

No - definately an iTunes problem with the way it handles iPad3.

As I said sooo often: Please write this to apple, call apple on the phine, go to the stores AND: Write to magazines! They all got to know that, otherwise there is not ana presssure on apple!

Why? It's not our business to be Apple quality control. Don't know about you guys but I have spent enough time on this already...can you be bothered to write all over the place.

Just take them back and demand a refund. It doesn't do what it is supposed to.

Then if you feel like it get another a few weeks later and take that back too if they haven't fixed it.

I don't think anyone knows for sure, but I'm with you I think it's iTunes as well and it has different issues with different devices. My iPhone doesn't sync photos perfectly since the iTunes upgrade, although it's different to the iPad issue. If I try to sync all the photos in one go on my iphone, whilst they all sync, the photos are all jumbled up and in random folders. As I have 2 devices with photo sync issues it would make more sense that it's an iTunes issue, confirmed more by the fact that my iphone used to sync photos perfectly before the iTunes upgrade.

True.

But I think this is due to the one size fits all approach (iTunes) to syncing with devices with different requirements (iPad3, iPad 2, iPhone, iPod).

Music, books etc are not affected as the requirements are the same on each device. Photos on the other hand are very much affected by the varying device screen resolutions. No suprise really that this very simple approach doesn't work.

My guess is that this is going to be really hard to fix without a) changing the whole iTunes philosophy, b) ignoring it and making iTunes work just for the higher iPad 3 screen resolution and ignoring everyone else with legacy devices, or c) reducing the resolution of photos for copying to iPad3 (to the same as iPad2) so that the benefit of the better screen resolution is only really useful for content that's paid for through the store.

I would guess that they are working c).

Hi - same issue but now solved.

I have about 4000 pics - some over 10mb due to SLR camera.

Sync would get to about 200 photos then just stop. I tried most of the suggestions but most didnt make a difference. I use win7 and this is a new ipad3. The replies here made me think that this might be pc resource or conflict issue - so where is what I did. I should say that the folders had all been sorted to have just jpegs as part of a previous suggestion.

  • Disconnect ipad from laptop
  • Delete the ipad cache folder
  • Reboot PC
  • Switch off - on Ipad
  • Start iTunes AND ONLY ITUNES - no other apps, browsers etc. I did use task manager to see mem/cpu use
  • Connect ipad to laptop
  • Sync

I have 8gb on memory and a fast laptop - ran with about 3gb used and CPU of 65% - sync does hit the resources hard.

Hope this helps others.

Thanks for the suggetion Steve, it worked like a charm for me!

I was able to coax iTunes into synching my iPad once way back near the start of this thread, but had failed every time since then. I followed your steps, did a synch, and succesfully loaded over 3K pics. It makes sense that this is some sort of Windows resource/memory issue, either on the iPad or the PC.
