The New iPad will not sync all photo's

I picked up the new iPad yesterday at the Apple store and am having a problem getting it to sync all of my photo library.

Im using iTunes on Windows 7 to sync the "My Pictures" folder to the iPad.

It will sync some but not all of the folders in the "My Pictures". I have deleted the "iPod Photo Cache" folder, that did not help.

I have 2 iPhones and 2 older iPad 1's which sync the photo's just fine.

Hi Peter. After a few re-tires my iPad is syncing again. This was on a Mac, iMac early 2009 I think. I don't have any PCs any longer.

My main problem I have had with Macs has been with iPhoto corrupting or rotating photos that I find out about during an OS upgrade. The last 2 upgrades, Lion and Mountain Lion have been the worst, but I don't think the upgrade is doing it. Not sure what is doing it, but it's a dfferent issue. I though perhaps this was related, but I think not. One situation requires a restore.

The touted fix all over these boards was to use iPhoto manager, but that does not work. There is a pattern I see on these boards that with an intractable problem that there is no solution to there are solutions posted as answers that do not work. It is a tremendous waste of time. I sure would like to see Apple taking on some of these issues instead of leaving people to flounder here with these unsupported suggestions from whoever?

Thanks,

Bruce

We bought the new iPad specifically because of the retina display, needing another way to display samples of our photographic work. Our first (and last) dip into the Apple pool.

We've tried all the "fixes" in this thread, even though most of them are variations on (with reference to the upcoming holiday) "fling a black cat around by the tail in a graveyard at midnight" ...

Synchronizing photos should not require an astrophysicist, or even a rocket scientist ... we do it all the time in the evil Windows world.

That Apple would promote and sell a visually stunning product to serious photographers for the display of slideshows and samples of their work, then be unable or unwilling to support basic functions of getting the photographs to the device and displaying them in a user defined sequence is unprofessional at best and fraudulant at worst.

I suppose there is an app for that - "Small Claims Court"? "Class Action"? iDiots!

Hi Bruce,

Interestingly I have the same configuration, an early 2009 iMac and two upgrade to Mountain Lion.

And I have worked with iPhoto only.

Yes, it would be best to have an Apple Store nearby, especially if you have such issues.

And a good double backup has helped me a lot as well.

IPhoto Sync was always easy like Apple promised. But there are special situations Apple cannot help, because the the the issue is outside their influence.

Friends from US were visiting me in Germany and we exchanged pictures after a a day trip in Bavaria.

Unfortunately the cameras had the wrong date setup and the only help was to update dates manually with the help of iPhoto for Mac.

Sorting needs to be done on a Mac or PC and not on the iPad and that is the challenge. A normal user is not aware that just renaming the file name is not working. You need a tool which is correcting the file modification date.

What are you doing now with your corrupt library?

Best regards

Peter

Hi C.Jobusch,

Thanks for your funny post, it makes me smile. :-)

I am an old boy and working with computers for 40 years now.

And syncing /sorting pictures, songs and audiobooks are the most challenging things on a PC/Mac.

I understand that you are using a PC and want to sync with iPad. Have you tried to sync a folder with iTunes?

Sorry for that simple question.

Best regards

I have 2 IPAD's, one is the IPAD2 and the new IPAD, I opened a call to Apple back last April about this specific issue, which thay still have to corrected. At one point I decided to drop putting pictures on the new IPAD and only store them on the IPAD2 since it was the only one that was synchronizing. But lately I guess i did not pay attention, it synchronizes alright but when i looked at the thumbnails and click on a specific thumbnail, the pictures that i get back is not the same as the thumbnail. Now this is getting to be a real PITA......

Not only do i have issued synchroninsing with my new IPAD, but now on my IPAD2, the thumbnails don't match the pictures when you click on it. BTW, both IPADs are running IOS6.

I guess I will start looking at other tablets for my pictures if Apple does not fix these issues, the probblem is only to get worse with camera pixels density increasing.

Hi Johnny,

It is really surprising (perhaps better: Shocking) how many people have issues with syncing. Sorting is a different thing, here the user preference is important and Apple is not willing to give the user options. If you want these options then you need to use a third party app.

You are not telling how you are doing the sync. I have iPad 2 and 3, have iMac and PC (XP+ W7) and could check if your pictures are syncing correct on my machines.

We could check that with test pictures you upload to Flickr and I download it.

What do you think ?

I have a Windows 7 PC and use Itunes to synch my 50 odd directories (one at a time) to my IPAD2. I have over 16000 pictures going as far back as 1959. Over the years the pixel resolution has increased from 2M Pixels to my latest camera 16M pixels.

One of the major factors i choose IPAD was for the pictures, I have been waiting years for the market to come out with a tablet that had a screen size bigger that 6inch by 4 inch to show my pictures.

I have tries everything that the Apple community suggested, but does not work on the IPAD3, and the IPAD2, and now that I have this latest issue between the thumbprint and the actual displayed pictures, I am very upset......

Apple should also add sorting features, either by filename or creation date. Anyway, the more we voice our concerns, hopefully Apple will pay attention to their client that PAY for product support and deal with the issue, I work in IT and have to deal regularly with clients that require support, that's our beard and butter.

Apple does not need BAD publicity, but if they don't fix this ongoing issue, I will advise my entourage to pick another tablet than IPAD.

Hi Johnny Upset :-)

ok, I have 32000 pictures, but I do not want to sync all. There is not enough room on my 64GB ipads anyway.

Wow, you have digital pictures from 1959. I was not aware that Digital Cameras were available in 1956 yet. ;-)

My first digital camera is from 1986.

I am working in IT as well and am an electronic engineer, so the illness to love electronic gadgets is coming from there.

Hmmh, I am not sure if I can help you. But one thing you should be aware. Then iPad 3 has a much higher resolution, so you cannot sync as many as you can sync to the iPad 2.

One of my pictures is having 4914 × 3197 (2.82 MByte) in iPhoto/Aperture and on iPad it is having 2360x1536 (0.807 MByte) while on iPad 3 it is having 4720x3072 (3.15 MByte).

Have you checked that already ?

OK, sorry forgot to mention that I scanned some pictures that go back from 1959 to 2000 which is when i got my first digital camera. yes i know wbout the resolution threshold which is about 3MP resolution density.

My earliest pictures have a resolution of 640 X 480, some of my newest pictures have 4608 x 3456. My pictures should all fit since my PC size indicates 16GB for my total directories. I have a 64GB IPAD2 and IPAD3.

I am just voicing my opinion and frustration Peter, not that I expect a mircale at this point until Apple decides to do something about it.

Hi Johnny,

no no that is 100% correct to raise our voice and tell that there is something wrong.

I am working in a software support/training team and are in the middle between the end user and the IT department. I love this job and I love working with people. To solve issues I need to know all the facts which has to do with the issue and the same is true for Apple.

Please let us collect facts :-)

Do you know the "exiftool by phil harvey" ? If not, please google it and download, check viruses and search and download for "exiftool gui windows", copy both in same directory and start the exiftoolGUI.exe.

Here you can investigate the thumbnail picture and all other information. Is it correct here ?

Hi Peter, what I am talking about about is the fact that the thumbnail might show you a picture of 2 person at a table talking but when you click on it, you get anotherr picture that shows a nature landscape that i took in a different timeline and a different series, its all screwed up.

I just heard that Itunes 11 is coming out, I presume that there might be a IOS update also, hopefully either one might address the issues....

Cheers

Hi Johnny,

Yes, let us hope the best. ITunes has been postponed to end of November and I would be surprised that and iOS6 update is coming very soon.

I have an iOS developer account and developer apps for myself and friends. Normally there are beta versions, but you never know. :-)

Your thumbnail issue is sounding very strange, have you checked your pictures what thumbnails are stored inside?

And have you done a restart of your iPad recently?

Best regards
