icloud not syncing bookmarks properly anymore.

icloud isn't syncing bookmarks properly anymore. It was working fairly well for a while there. I seem to have some instances of bookmark deletion being replicated but not bookmark addition. This isn't consistent though. I don't have any major duplication of hundreds of bookmarks (yet) but my new ones aren't always appearing everywhere as they used to.

A quick search on twitter shows that this is becoming more and more common.

I've already submitted feedback to Apple about this. I suggest everyone else having problems do the same.

i spent a considerable amount of time cleaning up my bookmarks on my iMac and wanted them to transfer to my iPad and iPhone, which appeared to work . . . and i do NOT recall being give a choice to "merge" them . . . and now days later i notice my old bookmarks are back, plus i've got duplicate bookmarks everywhere - i'd love to find the cleaned up version of my bookmarks somewhere in my backup and re-do it (import? copy/paste? i'm no techie, and i don't want to spend the hours re-doing from memory) then just shut off bookmark syncing.

sheesh. ***? it's not worth the time and effort if my bookmark housecleaning disappears.

I have been having issues with iCloud bookmark syncing for ages, and had given up and used itunes to sync my bookmarks to my iOS devices, but since that no longer works as of Mavericks and iOS 7, I needed another solution.

I have parallels and windows 8 installed, so I booted there, and used X-Marks to make sure I had clean bookmarks, and then installed iCloud Control Panel and iCloud for Chrome, and as soon as I switched back to Safari on Mac the proper bookmarks started to appear, and as soon as they did they were also good on my iOS devices. So either iCloud really does need 2 computers to work right, or iCloud just works better under windows!

The solution from superlum worked for me.

"I too was having issues as well. I added a bookmark on my desktop computer and it did not update on my macbook air but it did update my bookmarks on my iOS devices.

On my macbook air, I went to the iCloud preference pane and unchecked "Bookmarks" and then checked it again.

I opened up Safari and the new bookmark is now there."

The term they use - MERGE is a misnomer...merging would know if there are dupes and not merge them. All this so called merge is ADD to the list. You then end up with 2 sets and all kinds of dupes all over the bookmark list. They need to sync them like xmarks does.

I ended up having to completely erase all book marks after exporting them to html. then disableing firefox sync and cleaning up everything to an empty state. Then reimported the good html into firefox. then activate the firefox extension for the Cloud and then they all resynced.
