New iPad/iPad 3 charging time = 12 hours+

My new iPad took 12 hours ++ to charge from 0 to 100%, is this normal? I can't recalled how long my iPad 2 took, but it's definitely much quicker.

I'm aware the new iPad comes with a bigger battery, but charging more than 12 hours doesn't sound quite right to me. Any1 else experiencing the same?

Btw I'm charging it with my iPad 2 charger because I see the new iPad comes with the same 10w charger.

It's all about the USB charger whether using a computer or the one that came with the iPad. If you're charging with a USB port on your computer, it must be a higher powered port. If you're using the white AC charger that came with the iPad, you have to use the larger one and not the one used for the iPhone or iPod. With the small charger, it took 12 hours to go from 26% to 34%. With the larger charger, it took 3 hours to go from 34% to 100%. Basically, the iPad needs more juice than the smaller devices.

Cheers!

I have this looooooong charging issue for the retina Ipad too. All the explanations makes sense here, particularly larger battery = longer charge time. That said, I am a little jealous of the quick-charge posters.

For me, plugged in Ipad at 45% battery at 1 am. At 9 am battery = 75%

[Charging rate = 30% per 8 hours]

The problem is that I use the Ipad on long international trips, where I don't always have 15 hours and a safe place to plug it in. As much as I do like the improvements, if I had known this battery issue, I wouldn't have

bought the new Ipad this week, and, subsequently, reformatted and passed on my Ipad 1 to a family member. Going back would be a major hassle.

The long charging time has EVERYTHING to do with the USB charging port. If you use the small one that comes with the iPhone, it will take a very long time to charge. If you use the larger one that comes with the iPad, it takes only 3 hours to charge. I experimented and that is definitely the issue. 12 hours and only went from 26% to 34% (with a clock app running) with the small charger. 3 hours from 34% to 100% with the larger USB charger. The small charger also got hot. The large one didn't.

I'm also having a seriously long charging issue. It takes about 10 hours or more to charge fully. Approximately 5 percent per 35 minutes. I bought this ipad 3 used, but I have official apple 12W adapter and official cable, but I don't know why it's taking so long! I really hope someone can help me. I would be extremely happy if it charges in about 6 hours. I resetted my ipad a few days ago, and I don't have that many apps insatlled, so not much is running in the background, and also, turning on airplane mode doesn't help at all. Could some Please help me? I also tried the home button and power button trick, but no change. 😟 😟 😟

I thought I was using the correct cable also. The iPad retina comes with a special cable that has hire charging capacity. If I use my iPhone cable it would take a long time to charge over 10+ hours however if I switched to the iPad cable it would take five or six hours. How to detect the difference? The iPod cable has a longer neck on both ends. The little rubber thing where the end piece meets the cable. The iPad 3 and about has a longer one, almost twice the size of the iPhone. This is the easiest way to identify the iPad cable

Hello, thanks for your reply. I actually just discovered that my ipad 3 charges much faster when connected to my MacBook. I had this ipad for very short period of time yet, so I didn't know this. I came to conclusion that the adapter may be defective, so I asked the seller if he can send me a new adapter. It was an eBay seller with good rated store, so I hope he sends me one.
