My new iPad took 12 hours ++ to charge from 0 to 100%, is this normal? I can't recalled how long my iPad 2 took, but it's definitely much quicker.
I'm aware the new iPad comes with a bigger battery, but charging more than 12 hours doesn't sound quite right to me. Any1 else experiencing the same?
Btw I'm charging it with my iPad 2 charger because I see the new iPad comes with the same 10w charger.

Are you using your iPad at the same time while recharging its battery?
Also turn Airplane mode on while recharging your iPad.

Initially I was charged my iPad through my phone charger.
After reading a lot of articles, I realised was making a mistake and I am supposed to use the charger provided with the iPad.
I have not depleted the battery yet. So for the next charge I will use the iPad charger and see the difference.
I purchased an additonal 12W charger and use it for all of my iDevices.
Apple employees have told me the 12W charger charges everthing!
It charges my iPad 2, my wife's iPad 3 and iPad Pro and my iPod Touch 6th gen.
Nope, I'm not using it while charging. I didn't turn it to airplane mode though.
Just want to find out if most of user here are getting the same charge time as mine.
To get the iPad 3 to charge quicker, you should turn it OFF, and let it charge.
It could also be that you have a very active app on your iPad, which will of course draw energy while recharging the iPad's battery.
Also, is the screen off while recharging?

The iPad will turn on automatically when off, as soon as its battery is being recharged.
Yes, the screen is off. I only turn it on to see what's the percentage if charging.
I didn't sense a quicker battery drain on my first day of usage or perhaps I didn't pay attention to that. I will find out by timing how long I used till it shut off this time.
Make sure to turn off anything that might be drawing energy on your iPad while recharging its battery.
Read all the above since i am having same issues. I have done all the above and my ipad3 is only 58% charged since 9am . This is crazy to take this long. I have swapped chargers ie ipad 2 iphone 4s to see if there is a difference. I cant tell which charger came with ipad 3 anymore. I hope apple fixes this. I was going to make a genius appointment thinking my battery was defective.
Read the ratings on your charger.
For example my iPad 2 charger is labeled 10W USB Power Adapter.
The output is 5.1V at 2.1A.
Use the charger that supplies the highest Ampere (A) output rating.
It does indeed, unless you plug it in while it's on and then hold down the on/off button and turn it off. Then it stays off while charging.

This does not turn the iPad off, but merely puts it to sleep!
I charged my new third-generation iPad for the first time today (I had drained it all the way down until it turned itself off). It reached 100% in just over 5 hours. I used the charger that came with it. The iPad was turned on, but not in use, while it was charging. It also wasn't in Airplane Mode - WiFi was active, but not cellular.
12+ hours sounds like a lot to me!
Well, 5 hours for a full charge sounds suspiciously short to me. I'm betting that if you repeat that test, that is, run ing the battery down to zero and auto-shutdown followed by a complete charge, then you'll see a significantly longer time to get to 100%.
New iPad/iPad 3 charging time = 12 hours+
