New iPad/iPad 3 charging time = 12 hours+

My new iPad took 12 hours ++ to charge from 0 to 100%, is this normal? I can't recalled how long my iPad 2 took, but it's definitely much quicker.

I'm aware the new iPad comes with a bigger battery, but charging more than 12 hours doesn't sound quite right to me. Any1 else experiencing the same?

Btw I'm charging it with my iPad 2 charger because I see the new iPad comes with the same 10w charger.

iPad, iOS 5.1

This charging thing is a big deal. Where is apple? I havnt seen not one responce to this issue. I love Ipad. Do we have to flood the phone lines t get a answer. Plese let us know that you know there is a problem and that you are trying to fix it. This somthing you had to know about.

Apple isn't here. This is a user to user support forum and Apple does not participate. But this is not really a big deal. Well, to you, yes, but before you flame me, think about this. People who have issues often check into a forum like this to see if anyone else is having a problem. And so yes, there are indeed others who seem to have longer than normal charging issues. But, given that millions of iPads have landed in the hands of users around the world in the last three days, the volume of reports from users like you are remarkably low given the high numbers of sales. This of course means there are millions out there who are happily enjoying their new iPads, without issue.

Now, does that mean you don't have a problem. Of course not. But, since you do, what you should do is contact Apple directly, by either calling them, or visiting the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store. If your unit is found to be defective, it will be replaced.

I actually don't have an issue...On the days I charge my iPad I do so while it's off during the night, when I wake up, it's 100% charged and ready, granted, ive only done it once with the new iPad, charging it for a second time tonight so if there is an issue i will report back....

As for Apple contacting people, its no supposition at all on my part, Apple HAS contacted people to get feedback on issues they are experiencing....prior to you giving an absolute answer you would need ALL information which on this statement you do not have...

Your advice to contact Apple directly if someone has an issue is the spot on, best advice, they have always been one of the best if not the best companies regarding customer service....call, visit the genius bar...they will be more than happy to help...

My understanding from being on these forums (since iPad 1 and early iPods) is that Apple never responds here and I have never heard of someone getting a response from them based upon a post here.

That said - your recharge times seem extremely out of the ordinary. I have had the new iPad since Friday (like everyone else here) and while I have not totally discharged it - it did get to around 40% the first evening. I plugged it in and allowed the smart cover to put it to sleep (same as I did with my original iPad but I had to put it to sleep) and when I woke up at 9AM this morning (figure about 7 1/2 hours later) it was fully charged. Do not know when it reached 100% because I was sleeping.

But your figure of 12+ hours seems to indicate that either the iPad or the charger is not functioning properly.

I am having the same problems. My new iPad 3 takes forever to charge. Screen is locked, haven't been using it at all. It's taken about 3 hours to move 20%. I'm using an after market Monster cable and OEM wall unit. It charges my iPhone 4S from dead to 100% in a couple of hours or less. This is crazy.

I was having the same problem. Did a test and looks like it's the use of an older USB cable... but when I used the supplied with the Ipad 3 USB cable, charge rate went up dramatically. Both tests done with the 10W charger (because anything less would be dumb).

Specifics:

old-*** USB cable + 10W charger = 5-6% per hour = 100% in 16 hours

new and hot USB cable + 10W charger = 14% per hour = 100% in 7 hours.

Wow! Didn't mean for all of this. I love my iPad just little disappointed with charging problem. If I didn't use my iPad so much I wouldn't have this problem. I'm on night and day. And sometimes not near a outlet. I hope it's a software problem. And I know you hear me apple. I love y'all but get back in the lab and fix this please.

New iPad/iPad 3 charging time = 12 hours+
