iPad personal hotspot (uk)

Hi, I have the new iPad 4G on orange and the personal hotspot feature seems to be missing, I have read that this is down to the carrier so which uk networks support this feature?

Thanks,

Dan

I have an iPad 2 on Three UK (just got it recently) and haven't been able to find any Personal Hotspot options in the settings. I've tried adjusting the settings as mentioned earlier, but nothing. All software is up to date 😟

That said, I'm not sure if this thread is only for New iPad users – did anyone with an iPad 2 on the Three network in the UK get this to work?

I think everyone's a bit confused re the personal hot spots issue! The ipad dose not display a personal hotspot icon.

You set up your personal hot spot on your phone I have iphone 4 and had no problem setting up by wifi and blue tooth. You can either pair your ipad with blue tooth you can then go on the internet etc.Or set up your personal hot spot,it will be named the same as your phones name. You then join the wifi connection using the wi-fi password displayed on your phone. Its just the same as joining any other network.

As I have wireless internet at home I only need to use my personal hotspot when away from home where there isnt any free wi-fi.My ipad goes every where with me so its great to be able to use it by sharing my phones wi-fi.

No, you are confused.

The iPad can be a wifi hotspot if it is enabled by the cell provider.

You set up your personal hot spot on your phone
Unless you have an iPad and want to set up the personal hotspot on it as noted here -> iOS: Understanding Personal Hotspot

"Personal Hotspot refers to the Internet-sharing feature on iPhone 3GS or later* and iPad (3rd generation) Wi-Fi + Cellular. "

I must admit Chris CA Im no expert on Ipads or any thing else for that matter. But as my iPad is wi-fi only i dont see how i could create a personal hot spot on it! My aim was to use my phones 3g when need! And it works !!

I connect to my phone the same as any wi-fi network, with the password provided on my phone.I am pay as you go with Virgin Media.

Hello

It's definately a feature and is controlled by the carrier. Orange UK's official line was this when i spoke to them

'The iPad does support HotSpots however we dont have plans to enable the feature now or int he future.' They do however accept feature requests so if you feel passionately you can speak to you network and tell them why its great.

It's also directly refferenced on this Apple support page : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4517

It exists.

Tim

PS clearly only a feature on Cellular devices. WIFI only devices would gain no extra advantage of having it and when it's enabled, your usual wifi connection if you have it on cuts off.
