iPad personal hotspot (uk)

I have a VWZ iPad 3 right now. I am going to London next week. I will get a prepaid data SIM after I get there. Hopefully it will let me tether to my laptop as well.

I have the new iPad on a £7.50 PCM 1gb contract on 3 and the personal hotspot appears in the menu. I don't use it though but it should work - right?

Yes.

Any news on this for other networks in the UK? the tmobile twitter support people say they do sell new ipads but none of their contracts supports the hotspot.

OK the above instructions work with Three SIM card and Verizon iPad 3. Don't forget to switch the iPad off and then on, and then, your Personal Hotspot will appear in Network Settings.

Got fed up of waiting for tmobile (nothing nowhere) to "support" a product they sell and enable personal hotspot on the new iPad. So i cancelled my tmobile contracts and have switched to 3 pay monthly. Customer services even rang me the next day (as I had been talking to the fab team in ponty 3 store) to check everything was working and arrange the cost cap I wanted set on my account.

Personal hotspot now working, comes out of my contract monthly data. All at a capped price each month so I can use it as much as I like and never worry about spending more than I planned.

Yes, I also had top service from the Three store. Everyone there was knowledgable and eger to help. They tried different combination of cellphones and plans to get the cheapest deal for me.

I showed them how to enable tethering on the iPad, and they were very impressed (they didn't know it could be done!). After making sure the Three SIM can tether with the iPad, I then bought an iPhone 4S with all-you-can-eat data plan. Now I can use the same SIM in either iPhone or iPad. The sales person also told me they will unlock your iPhone after your first bill. Unlike AT&T, which will only unlock your iPhone at the end of the contract peroid (that is one major reason I don't want to buy iPhone in the States)

After my iPhone is unlocked, I will try my AT&T SIM in it.

It works on O2 UK. I have the 4th Gen iPad and it works fine. It also worked on my iPad 3rd Gen.

Just to be clear my personal hotspot on my iphone 5 will not work on my ipad2. Sorry technically challenged!

3rd-Gen iPad with 3-Ireland SIM (14.0).

Setup was a pain - the online purchasing system generates a pw that is *texted* to "the number"! So it was stuck in the SIM. Had to wait 24hrs for a new pw to be sent to my iPhone. Plus they ripped me off for €5- in the deal - "credit".

No "Personal Hotspot" field in Settings or Settings/General. No Network field in General.

Tech support has no input and just have an opinion about the "device" not offering "Personal Hotspot".

[@dchao99] Switching Off and On did not change this.

Moving on... and away from (3)Ireland!

@Usamantaray All looks good but "Carrier: 3 Ireland 14.0" is not clickable (in Settings/General/About) and after resetting Network Settings "Internet Tethering" did not show on APN Settings screen. And, of course, no "Network" appears under Settings/General.

No joy.
