My iPad doesn't connect to 4G when switching from WiFi.

I've never had this problem with my older iPad. But the new iPad (version 3) doesn't pick up 4G when switching from Wifi. I get bars but not Internet connection. I've rebooted, I also reset the network settings. My wife and I bth have the same new iPad but she doesn't have this problem, only mine...

To assume an issue is not being investigated because it isn't mentioned in an rumor site's individual article about a different issue is incorrect.

And a simple google search shows it is mentioned on other sites in articles and forums, since that will make it a real high priority issue, it seems.

I am having problems with 4G dropping intermittently on my iPad 3rd Gen (have AT&T in Michigan). I know I'm in a 4G area, because I can see 4G on my iPhone. I originally restored from my IPad 2 to the iPad 3. When 4G drops, have to reset network settings or turn iPad off/on to pick up 4G again when this happens. Here's what's been done so far:

  • Told by Apple to reset my network settings. Worked for awhile then dropped off again.
  • Told by Apple (after checking with AT&T) to reboot. Worked for awhile then dropped off again.
  • Told by Apple to go to AT&T and have the SIM card replaced. 4G dropped off again on the way home.
  • Told by Apple to trade out iPad 3 at Apple Store and don't restore from backup. Genius bar tech didn't listen to what I told him, gave me a new iPad 3 and restored from my old one. 4G dropped again within 20 minutes.
  • Told by Apple they would send me a new iPad 3 from the factory by mail. Wanted to charge me $30 express shipping (which I avoided by buying the $99 AppleCare Warranty). Apple placed an $829 hold on my credit card until they get the old iPad back.
  • Didn't attempt to set up third iPad 3 until I called Apple. They had me set up as a new iPad and sync info manually from the old one. What a pain, plus not everything synced over. Guess what? 4G still drops intermittently.
  • On Easter Sunday, called AT&T. They said everything looks good on their end and that I must deal with Apple. Called Apple and they said it might be the SmartCover, which is from Apple and brand new. Told to leave it off and see if 4G still drops. I'm waiting that one out right now.

Is this crazy or what? I've spent enough of my time on this issue (at my hourly rate) to more than purchase a new iPad. I'm totally fed up. Apple's customer service, which I always thought was stellar until now, I'm now not so happy with. Wanting me to pay for express shipping, then requiring me to buy AppleCare on a device that was less than a week old, spending 10-12 hours on the phone with various technicians, including 3 senior techs, getting disconnected by them several times with no call back, driving to AT&T store 25 miles away and later to the Apple store 30 miles away, then they screwed up an sent replacement iPad to my home when I told them to send it to work because a signature was needed by Fed Ex. Very bad customer service. So frustrating! I have had 5 iPhones, the iPad 1and 2, a MacBook and an iMac with no problems.

Ideas, anyone? How should I approach this?

I have the same issue on the "New" iPad. When leaving WiFi, I get the four bars and AT&T (the "4G" is missing), but no cellular connection. I then go to settings, toggle off Cellular and wait for "iPad" to replace the four bars and AT&T. Then I toggle Cellular back on and the four bars, AT&T, AND the "4G" appear and I have a cellular connection.

Latest software update a couple months ago worked for me, except in one situation. The issue repeats, in the same area, regularly. The office I was working in at the time, in a downtown area (Columbus, OH), would always, consistantly have this problem. When I was home, 20 miles away, or more (on vacation or traveling) I NEVER had the problem again. Only in the downtown area I worked in. It could very well be an issue with the towers in your area, as it appeared to have been in mine. I have since moved to a different office, in a completely different area, and I have not had this issue at all since. But it still occurs when I go back to that area.

I did try switching off the wifi. Didn't help and seems strange that you would have to do that. My second generation iPad effortlessly switched without me turning anything off.

I did switch off the LTE and that seems to have solved the problem. It now connects to wifi if home and moves back to 4G when I leave.

No clue why the LTE messes this up. The only place I saw LTE was at one airport, on a plane. And then the iPad also thought I was in a different time zone. So it's probably ok for now as it is not helping me on connections.

I don't believe it is a tower issue as it happened regardless of where I was. Switching off the LTE worked the best for me.

I do have a friend who just got a new iPad and she is having the same problem. They have replaced the sim to no avail. I suggested she switch off her LTE and that seems to have cleared it up for her as well.

Something's not quite right.

After working perfectly for several months, mine would no longer connect to 4G. With LTE enabled, the devicewent into a continuous cycle, attempting to connect but getting no service. The problem began less than a week ago and after spending an hour at the Verizon store talking to their tech/replacing the SIM, then spending a considerable time on the phone with an Apple tech, it became clear that the only work around was to turn off LTE and connect with 3G. That worked fine for 3G, but 4G was toast and would not connect under any circumstance. I even drove the device out of area to see if it was a local tower issue, although the demo iPads at the Verizon store were working fine. Apple finally recommended a repair, so I sent it back on Monday (8/20/12) and Fed Ex just delivered my NEW iPad today....a two day turn around. So I'm guessing that the problem couldn't be repaired. Kudos to Apple for addressing the problem quickly and sending a replacement.

My iPad doesn't connect to 4G when switching from WiFi.
