How do I know it's a new iPad?
I have an iPad sitting on my desk. Nothing to compare it to. How do I know it's a new iPad and not an iPad 2?

Mine is an iPAD New (according to the seller's claim) which I bought from the Singapore airport about one month ago. When I checked it whether it's an iPAD New (iPAD 3) or just an iPAD/iPAD 2 in the webpage (https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do), it said:
iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi + Cellular
Serial number: DY******VGH
But surprisingly enough, there is no dictation option! Now my question is-is my iPAD really an iPAD New or something else??

As PogoPossum said, you have to turn it on in Settings first.
Go it to Settings -> Keyboard and there should be an option to turn Dictation on or off. And you can read all the other posts and links in this discussion. :-)
The fastest way to see without doing any thing:
look at bottom dock connector. If it's black, it's iPad 2, if it's silver, it's New iPad.
My ipad 3 dont have dictation and when you go to settings where do you find keyboard
Settings > General > Keyboard
If you have upgraded to iOS 6 it is Settings > Siri > Siri = ON.
