MacBook Pro Cracked Screen

I'm baffled. I treat my electronics very well simply because I spend a lot of money on them and want them to last a long time. However, I went to use my computer this morning and at first noticed a scratch on my screen, after further investigation there is a crack in the top portion of my screen from one side to the other. My question is since I've had this particular MacBook less then a year, would that be covered for replacing? If not, how much would one cost?

I'm really confused as to how this even happen.

Thanks!

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

Exactly the same issue with MBP MLH42HN/A purchased this March 2017.

Its ridiculous how a display can just break within without any pressure / drops. The front glass is intact. absolutely no marks / scratches around the screen or on the aluminium lid.

I take great care of my products knowing how expensive these things are.

Apple's authorised service provider "Unicorn Infosolutions Pvt. Ltd." in Mumbai, India have given me the exact same reason for the display damage which is actually a manufacturing fault and use of inferior grade materials for the new generation of MacBook pros.

The staff at the service centre were more keen on proving the customer wrong than finding the actual solution to the problem.

No, the mac wasn't dropped or given any pressure. I wouldn't discuss this anywhere if I damaged the product and moved on quietly after paying up. I have the entire line up of apple products and none have given me any trouble over the years. But the way Apple and their service team refuses to take responsibility over low grade build of their most expensive MacBook, this will be a start to stop buying any apple products in the future. Completely cheated for my money this time.

I now have the exact same issue with the 2015 MBP I bought. It has never been used as a laptop. It's has sat on a desk for its entire life. After a year I gave it to my mother. It sat on her desk on a dock with another monitor. That's 1 move. It worked for a month before it became unresponsive. She didn't tell me for a couple weeks. I only found out when I went home for a funeral. The thing was hot and was unresponsive to all key presses. I ended up bringing it back to my home to troubleshoot it. The fix was to let the battery drain overnight and boot it up again. That worked fine but at that point the horizontal and vertical lines appeared with waving screen flickering. I took it into the local shop today and they just now called back with the same excuse everyone else in this thread and many others online received: physical screen damage. They quoted $749 to replace it.

The thing literally moved 3 times, twice between 2 desks. It's never even sat on anyone's lap before. To say that this thing has been babied is the understatement of the year. There are no marks in the case. There's no damage to the glass whatsoever. First year the lid on this thing was only up until I hooked up my much larger external monitor and then it sat closed until I gave it to my mother. It never graced her lap either.

I'm challenging the assessment with the local shop. That's utter crap. They're going to send it to Apple for them to make their own assessment. From what I've read here and in other places, I fully expect the same crap response from them. I'm a former Apple Certified Technician. This is not how they used to treat customers. Just how fragile are these Retina displays? How tight are the aluminum shells if they're cracking screens that don't ever move? Has anyone gotten a positive response out of Apple on this matter yet?

I have just discovered a crack in my screen. I thought it was a smudge at first. Very ******. Just paid it off and now this. I am going to see if this is covered with applecare, or even if mine is still active. I have a couple of nicks in the body of the laptop that happened the first week I got it because I didn't have a case yet. It has been 2 years and now the crack, so it can't be from that. Idk what I'm going to do... This must be some sort of defect.

"I had a macbook pro for 3 years before upgrading". Do you know how to read? I was referring to a previous computer. It is now in the hands of my father. I was comparing the treatment of the older computer to this current one. So, not sure what you think I've admitted to. Even said that "If I dropped it, put it under something heavy, or closed it on something then I would understand, but no.", meaning that it is not so.

This happened to me a few days a go! Like you I'm extremely careful with my electronic equipment, it sits in one place and is rarely moved.

I noticed a mark on the screen and lightly used the cloth provided by Apple to remove what I thought was a smudge. It then became a 5/6" crack!!

I called Apple and the advisor said I was covered by my one year warranty and I should take it to Stormfront in the centre of town and they would send it off to be repaired.

Next day I get a phone call to say it wouldn't be covered and it would cost over £800 to fix!!! After I laughed at the guy over the phone he said he was serious!

Let me make this clear THIS WAS NO ACCIDENT!

The response I got from them was that it was "cosmetic". A crack to the display cosmetic?! Surely the display is a functional part of the laptop?!? Cosmetic would be the exterior casing surely!?!?

Long story short I'm now waiting for a "second opinion" from Apple. I'm not holding my breath.

Very disappointed that Apple would treat their customers like this.
