MacBook Pro Cracked Screen

I'm baffled. I treat my electronics very well simply because I spend a lot of money on them and want them to last a long time. However, I went to use my computer this morning and at first noticed a scratch on my screen, after further investigation there is a crack in the top portion of my screen from one side to the other. My question is since I've had this particular MacBook less then a year, would that be covered for replacing? If not, how much would one cost?

I'm really confused as to how this even happen.

Thanks!

Macbook Pro, Mac OS X (10.6.4)

As I understand the warranty terms once the unit has been subjected to abuse, which is what Apple is calling this cracked screen issue, they void the complete warranty. Because they can't tell what is manufacturing defects, which is the only thing the warranty covers, or caused by the abuse.

I could be wrong and the final word is Apples.

You can check the warranty status of your MBP online.

What I'd like to know is there any external damage to the lid/screen cover? Is it mis-fitting?

I'm not sure how other people open their MBPs but I am very gentle, opening and closing it slowly. I have done this on all notebooks I have ever owned and never had a problem with the screens, the latches (if they have one as in a lot of PC notebooks) or hinges.

The only thing that comes to my mind about this is if the screen is Rapidly Yanked open this could cause the aluminum cover to flex. It's a very thin aluminum cover. If it's anything like the bottom it is very thin. Once the cover flexes something has got to give. Glass flexes a little but not as much as aluminum.

I have a similar crack like yours on my son's Macbook pro....but not so obvious.... Still under warranty.... Never dropped it... Send for repair... Technician could not find any dents ... He sugested that maybe a sharp object was used to poke the screen.... Sigh... I have had many apple products..... Currently 7 of them (2 iPads, 2 iPhones, 1 MacBook, 1 MacBook air and 1 MacBook pro ) in the family...... I had my iPhone dropped under warranty before... Got it changed Without approaching Apple as it was my fault...... But for the macbook pro... It just cracked... So if Apple do not wish to honor its warranty... It is their right... But to suggest that the customer poke the screen... It is insulting.... I guess that as a consumer ... The only right I have is to stop buying...
